Decided to spend this beautiful Sunday afternoon in Aiken's Hopelands Gardens. We started at the Thoroughbred Racing Museum which was in the re-purposed Carriage house of the Estate turned Gardens. The Hall of Fame and Museum is a must see event for horse and racing enthusiasts, and a great learning experience for everybody. I also enjoyed the wonderfully restored historic... More

This museum is in a 100+ year old carriage house and stable. It honors the race horses that have trained in Aiken and then gone on the win the Eclipse Award (the most prestigious award in horse racing). Many famous horses have trained in Aiken. See the silks of the various owners, posters that change every time I am there.... More

Even if you are not a horse person, its worth the stop. Free. Lots of great items to see. They did their homework.

The Hall of Fame has a bare bones set-up. Most of the displays are plaques profiling the horses that trained in Aiken and went on to win big in racing. I suppose then that someone completely disinterested in horse racing will find little to catch their minds here. Me, I do like to follow the Triple Crown and I was... More

And the rest of us will find it interesting too. We came as part of the trolley tour from the visitors center. The site is beautiful and the collection of racing and other horse memorabilia is amazing. Docents are there to answer questions and pass on more information that isn't always in the exhibits. A great place to visit at... More

If you are a fan of horse racing then you must go. Lisa H. knows her horse history and loves to share her knowledge. Inside lovely Hopeland Gardens this is a great little museum.

I know nothing about thoroughbred racing but I was with someone who does and we both enjoyed this museum. Susan shared some interesting stories and told us about the tree we kept seeing in so many photos. If you are visiting Aiken and are wondering the same thing, let Susan tell you the story and she might also tell you... More

We came to Aiken looking for a home. We stopped by this museum to check it out. It is full of history and is very interesting. We enjoyed looking at all of the trophy's and photos of the horses. They also had information on the people who took care of the horses. Nice place to visit.
