There's not much left of the fort, but with the guide/map provided at the entrance you really get a feel for what life was like when this fort was in use.

About 45 minutes East and North of Fort Phantom Hill is Fort Griffin established in 1867. One of the neatest things about Fort Griffin (another are many) is that is it a "Dark-Sky Site and there is fantastic star-gazing and if you haven't seen the West Texas night sky you are really missing something. After your visit at Fort Phantom,... More

I was so impressed with the new welcome center and restrooms. We were able to freely walk around and explore the site at our leisure. Bonus... we were the only people there!

I like historical places, It's free and on a cool sunny day in January I enjoyed the short trip to Fort Phantom Hill. Recommend you visit Frontier Texas first to learn the history of West Texas and the purpose of the forts the go and walk in the history of this fort, I did the reverse and still enjoyed it.... More

This was my 3rd or 4th time to this Historic Fort. But this time I was there at the very end of the day when the setting sun made the Ruins glow. Enjoyed exploring more and finding structures I hadn't seen before.

We enjoyed looking around this historic area and trying to envision the life of those who lived here so many years ago. There's not a lot left of the buildings, but just enough to wet your appetite.

We lived in Abilene for several years and I always wanted to visit the fort, but never did. On a recent visit back to town, I remembered this place and looked it up on the map to find the exact location. As we left town early in the morning we stopped to look around. It was a beautiful sunny morning,... More

I gave it a 5 because I LOVE this old fort, but I am not sure anyone who is not a die hard history buff would enjoy it. Not much is left, but I go to the fort about once a year, just to walk around and feel...

This is a little far out but it was a really nice place to hike just be careful of ants. It's definitely peaceful.
