Fun and interesting

I didn't know that Amarillo was the helium capital of the world. Fun trivia and interesting monument. Worth stopping by to see and snap a few photos.

This monument is not at the spot where helium was discovered. The monument is outside the Discovery Center. Not the same....

If you like quirky art combined with science, then this exhibit is for you. It's located on the grounds of the Harrington Discovery Center and should definitely be visited during your visit to the museum.

Read about the Helium Monument in the AAA guide and decided to stop by and see it. It was very interesting and a good stretch stop.

Interesting stop by a park, playground, and the botanical gardens. Very teachable moments about helium, natural resource stewardship, and time capsules.

Great place to teach about helium & it's many uses. Next to a park with a pond & a kids playground. The playground has public restrooms & a place for kids to jump in the water.

This is a good place to stop and stretch your legs. If you are looking for an off-the-wall tourist stop, this is it. Not much to do otherwise. Reading the plaques don't take but a few minutes. Definitely read about how they moved the monument to its present location. The time capsule concept integrated into the design of the monument... More

You know, this was kind of a big deal, when I was a kid in Amarillo...in like the 1970's...but unless you are just in the area...its really not that much! Its a cool honor to the city and Amarillo's Helium History, but not much of a tourist sight!
