If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

Austin is a city with lots of life and energy, the music scene is very active and there's a lot of life in the downtown area. The State Capitol gives this laid-back city a touch of class and reminds you of its glory days.

We went mid-morning on a weekday. There was plenty of parking in a multi-level garage. The assembly chambers and the rotunda are beautiful. Very good way to spend a hour or two and learn a lot about Texas history.

Had a nice time touring the Capital with my daughter. We originally started with a tour but quickly broke off on our own. Tour was quite boring and mundane. Got to see both legislative branches and also got to see House of Representatives in session which was very cool. Beautiful building inside with a majestic ceiling and rotunda. Outside not... More

I was in town on business and had just wrapped up a late afternoon/evening meeting. As I walked down Congress to where my car was parked, I realized I was staring straight up at the capitol building! I crossed the street and went on a brief journey into the past. It's incredible how quickly the sense of understanding of the... More

As the title of this review states, check tour times in advance and take the free tour. Whereas the building stays open late and you are free to wander around, I feel as though it would be a waste to visit and not to take the guided tour which offered great insight into the history of the incredible building and... It was phenomenal! Washington DC is wonderful! I truly enjoyed the tour, all the history made me appreciate our rich country even more. The weather was wonderful, a lot of walking, but worth it❤

In a walkable downtown area with shops and restaurants all around. This stately building is impressive and easy to walk around the grounds.

Was a great day and time. Our board was happy to visit with legislators. The legislation was in sessions but met with staff members.

I only did a walking tour of the grounds. We didn't have much time in the area, but this was worth the stop. The grounds are so well maintained and the structures are beautiful. Wish we had more time to explore inside.

An impressive state capital, beautifully maintained historic site. The rotunded is very impressive. Was a little disappointed some of the areas, such a Superior Court Room, noted on the self guided tour were not open.
