If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

I've been to Austin several times but always saw the capitol building at a distance, but on this trip I was able to visit (as I was staying close by) and it was really cool to see it up close, both inside and outside.

There are tours every 30 minutes. You have to see it for yourself. Pictures cannot do it justice. Standing in the rotunda and looking up takes your breath away. Seeing all the pictures of the governors was heartwarming, especially Ann Richards and George Bush. It's amazing from a distance but breathtaking from inside. So glad we took the time to... More

As Texans we considered this a "must see". We went inside briefly and looked around. Texas spared no expenses on this building! Really neat to see (you don't see impressive buildings like this much like you might in Europe for example).

Beautiful building lots of history, knowledgeable guides. Be sure to go when the Legislature is in session and you will get a real Civics lesson. Good for all ages.

Anytime you visit a historical site, there's always something to be felt and said. This building has amazing history and artistic work throughout. Climbing the stairs to the upper levels isn't for the faint of heart. There are elevators for those who choose to go the easy way up. Once inside and upstairs, you can look down and see the... More

The State Capitol is all lit up at night and beautiful to walk around. Tons of people are out and about there so it's completely safe.

We walked here from Hamton Inn. What a magnificent structure and history lesson. We could have spent few days walking around inside and outside . Plant to spend at least a full day here.

This was one of the most beautiful buildings I've had the privilege to enter. Ornate woodwork line the walls and ceilings and paintings of all the past governors remind people of the past. I was surprised to see that as early as 1920, Texas had forward thinking, electing a woman to serve not only once but twice. The star that... More

I am addicted to going on tours and learning about history, even though I've always had a great disdain for history growing up. I figured that since I'm moving to Texas some time in the future, that I should probably learn about the city of Austin and the state of Texas first. The capitol is several blocks from the restaurants... More
