If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

Nice!

Went to the Capital on our first day into Austin and it was pretty nice. The security wasn't very tight. Thought it could have been better.

An amazing building that had a major expansion which you would never know was done and then when they needed even more space they built the addition underground. If you have an interest in architecture this is something you wont want to miss.

You have to see it, if you find yourself in Austin. Pretty cool to see people at work, doing the texan laws :). There is a free tour, pretty short, lasts about 20-30 minutes, they have nice gift shop inside.

The FREE tours meet just inside the main entrance. As you are walking in, there is a little sign posted on the left, just after security. It is a bit small, so you have to look for it. There are not any tickets, and anyone is allowed to join or leave at any time. The only problem that we had... More

Beautiful building with very knowledgeable tour guides. Or you can do a self-led tour. The grounds are gorgeous, as well. It's free!

This massive building is simply beautiful. It's massive size must be seen to be believed. Male sure to walk all the way up to the front to fully appreciate it.

Austin's capitol building is larger than any other state capitol and our national capitol in Washington, D.C. (are we surprised?). The red granite exterior stands in contrast to the beautifully manicured green grounds. The interior rotunda illustrates how Texans think of their state (Of the six flag emblems featured in the lavish granite floor, the Lone Star has the center... More

Got there around 10am on a Tuesday and was able to go on a tour right away. Was just us and the tour guide. Capitol building is very impressive. It's actually taller than the US Capitol. Even got to see the governor, albeit very quickly as he zoomed past in his wheelchair.

It is a must if you go to Austin. The architecture is amazing and beautiful and the history behind it so interesting. It only takes about an hour, but well worth it.
