If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

Free parking (just a few cars can be accommodated in the parking lot across the street from the State Capitol), the tour guides are very knowledgeable and it is a beautiful building.

This was a great place to spend an hour. Beautiful combination of history and modern activity. The dome is really cool as are the two chambers.

The dome of the Capitol dominates the skyline of Austin. We decided to check it out and take a tour. It was a unique structure and a good tour.

Sorry Elizabeth, but I was in Dubai, UAE when you submitted the question. The #37 bus would have taken you from your location to 8th & Guadalupe. Only a few blocks from the Capitol.
