If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

I did a short visit but I enjoyed it. Free to visit. Spacious lobby and meeting rooms. The grounds outside the building are also very nice.

We arrived late afternoon but found out the Capital Building was open until 9:00 p.m. and the best part is, it's free to visit. There's lots of history and the building itself is beautiful. Even the rain moving through the area didn't deter us. We...More

I am so glad we visited the Capitol. The grounds are incredible, and then you go inside... You can opt for a self guided tour, but I recommend going on one of the free tours that start every 30 minutes or so. Get the history...More

The capital is really cool. It's completely free to enter, although street or garage parking is not free. We were able to visit all the session rooms on an official tour (free) as well as walk around on our own. The visitors center neighboring the...More

This is a "must see" for people wanting to soak up some Texas history. The annex has a couple of shops that has very cool state of texas memorabilia.

We really enjoyed our visit. The guide had great stories. It was nice to be able to move freely...it was short visit so we didn’t get to see it all. We are definitely coming back

The complex including the network of underground offices, hearing and committee rooms is most impressive. The Senate and House Chambers are beautiful and have been updated with modern technology while retaining its original historic look including the legislators desks. Self-guided tours and free tours are...More
