I cannot rate McKinney falls highly enough an awe inspiring place to spend a few hours either hiking cycling or an easy ramble around one of my favourite places in Austin

I've lived in Austin, TX for over 5 years now and I only just discovered the amazing McKinney Falls State Park. Entry fees are $7, I believe, but if you have an annual Texas State Park Pass your whole car can get in for free....More

We only live 2.5 hours from this state park and had never been, but we will now be returning! The campsites here are beautiful. You do not see nor hear anyone, it feels like you’re the only ones there. Well maintained, quiet, clean. Take your...More

Perfect day trip! We hiked about 3-4 miles, saw the old mill and homestead, the waterfall, and huge flat/rock area. This would be a great venue for a fun concert! As long as it was well regulated. No littering, this place is gorgeous!

Spent an early evening here in mid April. The falls were fairly minimal but were flowing. I think it would be nicer after a rainfall. I was pretty fascinated by the rock formations and how water had carved out overhangs and mini-canyons. Plenty of wildflowers...More

Visited on a sunny cool morning and saw almost no one. Enjoyed doing some walking on the trails to the falls which were flowing nicely. Breaks my heart to see what slobs some people can be with their trash. The mosquitos were an unpleasant surprise-...More

I visited on a weekday, so the park wasn't packed by day users, but I overheard a customer service person on the phone saying that their campgrounds were booked through the beginning of July. So, if you're a camper, call ahead. Bluebonnets were out (fourth...More

My husband and I like to hike the trails in McKinney Falls state park a couple times a year. The Onion Creek trail is 2.8 miles long and made of asphalt. The trail is easy, windy and has small hills. The homestead trail is 3.1...More

Perhaps it has been a dry year in the Austin area but we really had to use our imaginations to figure out why this is called McKinney Falls. We looked at both the upper and lower areas that supposedly contained the Falls but saw only...More

It will definitely be hot (hovering around 95-99 degrees last time I checked), so you may want to go in the earlier AM hours or in the evening to avoid the worst of the sun. However, the park has a lot of picnic areas that... More
