If you just want to go for a short nice walk, I guess this is for you. It really didn't do anything for me or my wife in terms of plant life or wildlife.

Overcast day just right for spending a few hours at Austin’s Zilker Botanical Gardens. This urban garden nearly lets you forget that you’re in a large city; however, some areas are close to the highway and the sounds of cars speeding by is unsettling. This...More

Bring your camera! There’s so many places to get cute photos of the kids and appreciate the beauty of nature. The Japanese garden transports you to another place and even has beautiful koi.

Very nice small garden. I enjoyed it. We only spent an hour here. I appreciate that they have found a space to save little historical items. I really liked the iron canal crossing bridge for example. Some very beautiful koi. Don't miss the "gardens" throughout...More

The Zilker Botanical Gardens are a great place to add to your vacation itinerary. The gardens are huge and sectioned off into various themes. We came the first weekend that the Woodland Faerie Trail opened and this was my favorite part of the botanical gardens!...More

Very informatively. Great walking trails. Weather was perfect. They allow dogs on leashes. Parking was easy and close cost a dolla

Very shady and lovely spot. A good inexpensive place to visit! The Japanese gardens area is pretty with lots of lilly ponds. There's also a vegetable garden!

Austin arboretum is located in Zilker Park on Barton Springs Road. The gardens are nice enough but nothing especially impressive. The maintenance is about average for such facilities. Someone can expect to walk the trails and see the highlights within 90 minutes. The Japanese Garden...More

We spent a little more than an hour wandering around this space. It’s a nice outdoor space but I’m not really sure it should be considered a Botanical Garden. It felt more like a nature reserve with a few nicely plotted gardens. We found it...More

Apparently the work of one man of Japanese origins, the site has been carefully maintained by the City of Austin parks department, probably assisted by volunteers. Although situated between two main roads and traffic noise is considerable near one boundary, it is a tranquil environment...More

While there are no picnic tables, I doubt that anyone on staff will tell you to get out if they see you eating. Definitely no fires.
