We stayed at the Rustler and skied Alta January 3-6 (Tuesday-Friday). This being immediately after the holidays, no one was there. Even better, it snowed like crazy every day -- several feet while we were out. One day it was snowing so hard I didn't...More

We didn't intend to ski there but just to satisfy our curiosity to get to the end of 190 highway along Big Cottonwood canyon. It didn't take a lot of time. But when we got there we found blues sky, white snow and a lot...More

I visit Alta nearly 30 days a year from the Delaware. It is very hard to find better snow conditions and terrain.

One of the many places to go during the winter. Personally I would prefer going to the canyons or Brighton..but if you're in the area it's not a bad spot.

This is the place. Best snow in the world, great trails, not crowded awesome scenery. Demo skis are the way to go - switch out and try new things all day long.

Alta is amazing, tons of terrain for everyone, well run, great skier etiquette, plenty of bowls and if the snow is good, hike up to Catherine's Pass -- stunning views, challenging terrain, beautiful fluffy pillowy powder goodness

I have skied here for many years and not much has changed. This area offers the most challenging skiing available in the little cottonwood area. Not much in the way of frills and no big gondolas or large chair lifts. Lots of black and double...More

Beautiful ski runs in a picturesque setting. Was very happy with how we were outfitted with brand new Head and Tyrolia rental gear. Rental prices quite reasonable.

This place is not for the mild at heart. There are some easy ways down but this is place where excellent skiers can be challenged. It is beautiful many faceted terrain usually with reliable snow. I would come back again -- definitely.

My friend loves Alta, so she strongly recommend us to go to Alta for Spring Break. We were not disappointed! We went there on the last week of March. Not only Alta has a big base of snow, it had fresh snow three times during...More

How is the drive to Alta from Cottonwood Heights compared to the drive to Solitude? Is it similar as far as time and difficulty? Thank you.

It's about the same. Download the UDOT app (Utah Dept of Transportation) and sign up for the text alerts. The app will notify you of closures and when you are required to have 4WD/chains. You have to figure that during... More

I was surprised to see that the Alf Engen ski school doesn't take reservations. We have 3 young kids who don't know how to ski. So booking a trip to Alta only to not get them into ski school would be a huge problem. We are going January 1. 2017 for a few days. Anyone have an opinion on likelihood we would not be able to get into the ski school?

Hello- we are long time beginner/lower intermediate skiers who like long slow scenic runs down- is this place for us? We want to ski there on 2-3 January 2016. Does this place rent skis and boots? Thank you:-)

Alta seems to be a little more advanced, I would hesitate to take my family there that doesn't do steep and fast. Same with Snowbitd.
