The self-guided tour gives plenty of opportunity to linger in the public rooms of this historic tavern and then to explore the less attractive sleeping quarters upstairs. The various informative notices throughout the building are full of interesting and unusual facts about life in Colonial...More

Really creative small museum, with enthusiastic staff. Great labeling of displays, and graphic accounts of what travel was like back then. What do we have to complain about? Several labels said to look in the clay vessel next to it. Took me a while to...More

We spent the day in Alexandria and this was a great find. Washington ate here and the servers are all dressed in period dress. The tables, plates all are old fashioned. My husband enjoyed the beer. I had the peanut soup, it was really good....More

I've lived in the area for years and never visited this museum. Now I'll be taking folks from out of town whenever I get a chance. Definitely try to take a guided tour, if possible. So much history and beautifully presented. A real treat.

Visitors can compare how Colonial travelers managed vs current day accommodations ! This is a history lesson for young and old. At the tavern next door, I kept expecting George Washington to stop in, pull up a chair and oder a pint of ale.

Menu a combination of colonial 18th century American and modern dishes. The dining rooms are the tavern and restaurant of this 18th century venue. It was the leading inn and tavern of Old Town Alexandria and has that ambiance in a charming way. Washington celebrated...More

We went on the self guided tour. Placards were well paced and informative. Gives a great feel for what things were like in the early days of our country.

Although most rooms are relatively void of actual historical furniture, we really enjoyed our self guided tour. Most interesting to me were the typical dinner menus by season. Tables were laid out with "fake" food. For example, fish was available every season except winter. Upstairs...More
