More
The Apothecary served local customers, including the Washingtons and Robert E. Lee, between 1792 and 1933. The shop was transformed into a museum shortly after its closing and visitors can still view the original ingredients, products, and documents left behind by this 141-year-old family business.

We popped by here to visit the gift shop. While it is small, it has a lot of fun and quirky medicine-related gifts. Something to keep in mind if you want to get somebody something a little more unusual from Alexandria. Staff were super friendly...More

We went here because it was suggested by a lady on another tour. It was well worth the time. You will learn quite a bit about old time medicine

I love history of Medicine, so this was a must see for me! It is a small collection of artifacts but quite nice to see!

We all loved our tour! This is a fascinating building with many of the original materials still on the shelves. We were all entranced by the history and items. The docents are knowledgeable and clearly love sharing their knowledge of the building and the family...More

This place was so cool. It is exactly as it was when it was closed 75 years ago which is so amazing. A must see as far as I’m concerned

The contents were saved at auction and it's mostly unchanged since the shop closed. Cool little shop. Get a "Key to the City" from the visitors center and it covers many local sites.

It was a throwback to a more dangerous time when the likes of "Dragon's Blood" was an ingredient in the so-called medicine that was sold. The visit made me even more greatful for the FDA!
