It took us a full day to find 3-5 orcas that always stay underwater (da, ?) But hear me out, it was pretty disappointing. It was also a pretty exhausting tour because we have to constantly be on the lookout for the orcas (because they dive in and show up elsewhere) and I get a little sea sick. The orcas... More

They will bend over backwards to find whales. I am a season pass holder and we have gone as far north as Salt Spring Island in Canada. As Far East as Race Rocks past Victoria Canada and as far south as Edmonds. These are great trips where you see all kinds of wildlife and you have a very knowledgeable naturalist... More

We've been whale watching on all seven continents, but my wife and I had yet to see orcas in the wild - it was our jinx marine mammal. So expectations were high when we visited Anarcortes and Island Adventures did not let us down. This is an extremely professional organization from top to bottom. The people are friendly and informative... More

Len, Thank you so much for reviewing your tour! I'm thrilled that we were able to finally provide your "jinx marine mammal", killer whales, along with humpbacks and Dall's porpoise as well. Sounds like quite the trip! And yes, we have big things on the horizon next year including our new vessel, the Island Explorer 5, which will serve a... More

We set off on the last week of the season that was a surprisingly beautiful sunny day for the San Juans at this time of year. We were not first to board the boat and my only qualm was that first people on took the more comfortable seats in the cabin, hogged them with piles of gear and we were... More

Thanks for joining us and taking time to review your experience. It sounds like you had incredible luck with three different species of whale! That's one of the perks of the fall whale watching season - we tend to get quite a lot of variety at this time of year which makes for some spectacular trips. It was a pleasure... More

I researched quite a few whale watching companies in the Seattle area before selecting this one. We traveled with them for 3 days in a row - 2 days out of Anacortes and 1 day out of Port Angeles. We found the staff in both locations to be helpful, knowledgeable, and just as excited to see the whales as we... More

Helen, I'm glad you got to experience both of our locations! We're often asked "which is better?", but the honest truth is that they're both fantastic! We'll pass your compliments on to our crew members in both locations and hope to see you out on the water again shortly! More

Fantastic experience! We were not expecting to see many whales because it is getting later in the season but we were really wrong...there were both orcas and humpback whales out there...and they were still doing there thing when we had to head back to shore. The crew kept us out as long as they could and we could tell that... More

Jennie, You can actually see whales in this area at any time of year, but the fall is nice because of the sheer variety of wildlife. You got to see this firsthand during your "double-header" with both orcas and humpbacks! J50 (Scarlet) is a favorite of many, so I'm glad you got to "meet" her! We'll pass your compliments on... Purchased tickets online and was hoping for good wheater....We were not dissapointed, it was a sunny, but also a bit chilly day. Thanks to the website information we dressed as suggested, so no problem. The crew was very professional and after a few hours we were lucky to see several killer whale families. It was a fantastic day and something... More

First, make sure you bring a camera!!! You must go to the store a few blocks away, to check-in prior to going to the marina. After getting to the marina, it is a short hike (approx. 100 yards) from the parking lot to the boat. When we got to the boat, they gave everyone a short safety brief, prior to... More

Whale watching was a definite do during my stay in the Pacific Northwest. While it was chilly off the coast of Anacortes, we were spoiled with calm water and partly sunny/sunny weather. We lucked out since the previous day's trip saw zeros whales and had less than ideal weather. The boat was quite crowded however since a lot of the... More

First, I want to focus on the good points. The whale guarantee was great. If you see no whales, you get to return for free. I believe that is only if you see no whales at all, so if you see a humpback but no Orcas, you may not receive a rain check. Of course, Orcas were what we came... More

Thank you for taking time to write about your recent experience. You bring up a few great points that others planning trips may be interested in, so I'll address those. Our standard whale guarantee does, as you mentioned, cover any of the five major whales we expect to see in this area: humpbacks, orcas, minkes, grays, or fin whales. We... More
