Refreshing to observe a revived sea port into a fresh tourist attraction with flair. Strangely European within the outskirts of Kyushu, nonetheless, a display of sea port scenery, buildings and cuisine. I look forward to additional development in the near future. We visited on a cold, sunny day and it was a great change of scenery from Fukuoka downtown. We... More

I went there in the evening at around 1900 and a lot of shops or restaurants were off already. Also, the streets looked very artificial to me, as if they were just pretending for tourism. I would have skipped it.

A short train ride away from Kokura, Mojiko is a charming, quaint little retro port city that you can easily explore on foot. Lots of snacks and buskers/performances when we visited on a weekend, and many old buildings that you can take photos of. There is an indoor market selling packaged delicacies that you can purchase as souvenirs, and there... More

Some historical buildings of about 100 years old from the time when Japan began the trade with the western world. Well restored.

It's certainly a nice walk around here with the nice buildings. However, due to its size, you can probably complete this area within a short period of time. Nevertheless, it is worth a visit and is a good place to take photos.

We just loved this plc since we visited in Nov 2014. The Mojiko is also known as the Retro Historic District, a charming port town along the Kanmon Strait (end of the JR Kagoshima Line). The site is only 10 minute of walk from the Mojiko Station, which itself is another tourist spot and is a designated national important cultural... More

Mojiko is a small old international trading port of Kitakyushu city that located on north of Kyushu island. Now it is not run any port activities. There are many antique western style building around this place. Japanese love to visit here for relaxation. Places around there are very nice.

There are a dozen of old buildings which were built about 100 years ago. The Moji port opened for international trading 120 years ago. After that many trading, shipping, financial and travel companies built their offices near the port. Nowadays those buildings were renovated, and reopened as public spaces for tourists. There are many interesting architectures in the town. I... More

The building restorations of old buildings are next to ultra- modern ones, and the straits and waterways lend a very nice charm to this area, ahich has attracted some good restaurants and bars as well. There is a very convenient and inexpensive ferry which takes you very near to the Shimonoseki Fish Market (takes bicycles, too!) so getting across either... More
