The guide stopped and i thought another church, as there are 13 churches and 9 chapels in Ouro Preto. Many are in need of support and others are undergoing refurbishment and given enough time they will each have a story to tell and show. The churches were built with the social status in mind for example a church for slaves,... More

Amazing building with a beautiful facade. Simple and colorful. This church is small but full of art, starting with the interior door painted with religious themes.

We saved this church for last and almost missed it which would have been a shame as it is very beautifully decorated and very historically significant. It was the only church that had the history and full explanation of the interior written out in English and other languages (get the card at the entrance) which made it so much more... More

Built on top of a hill, with a convent aside. Located at 50 meters from the plaza. Beautiful view of the city. It has a lot of beautiful details and a Portuguese design from 1600.

It is not a good idea to visit all the churches in Our Preto on one day, or the excess of gold decoration becomes overwhelming. This church is particularly lovely, and indeed is now designated a basilica. It is superbly richly decorated so one needs a fair amount of time to look around and appreciate the side altars, the ROF... More

The church is another example of Baroque architecture with roccoco embellishments. There is a very ornate fountain inside which one might be frightened to drink from!

The ceilings, the altar, everything magnificently ornated, Portuguese tiles decorating the sides of the altar. It's unique in all Minas Grerais state. The church is in good condition, well restored.

Not only is the church a sight to visit but also the view from the church. The enterance is R$3 and they have English pamflets inside that explain the symbols of the decorations
