Typical local market, but famous and a must see. Some specialities need to be looked at. Near fishing dock with great atmosphere.

There is so much to see and take in. It's truly a sensory and visual overload. The stalls are tightly packed and it's very crowded. A lot of the stalls sell the same thing, but it's clear that the locals have there favorite vendors. There are...More

We visited this market as part of a tour from a cruise. The market was unfortunately closing as we arrived but there was still plenty to see. It must have been considered dangerous as apart from our guides we had burly security men watching our...More

Very interesting market in Belem. The ideal place to see various local natural resources sold as products: cassava derived products, vegetables, fruits such as cupuaçu, brazilian nut, river and sea fish, etc. There is one section dedicated to health and herbs used for rituals or...More

Great to immerse yourself in the noise and heat of a market. Interesting to observe the people and activity. It is not clean and that was everywhere we walked in Belem. Scavanging birds were having a great time with the rubbish.

The place is a bit dirty. But it's good to enjoy a beer along the river side. The price is reasonable.

Interesting local market, with great smells, different local fruits and vegetables (try the Amazon fruit juices), nice fried fish to eat. Try the fresh açai, tastes nicer and different from what you get elsewhere. Local art crafts for a reasonable price. Just leave your valuables...More

We visited over the holiday weekend on our cruise ship, and the Mercado was packed with local shoppers and diners. This is the largest open air market in Latin America, and sold everything imaginable from chickens to chicken soup. There was also a raised part...More

This Market is for the locals, instead of the sanitised "Dock" experience down the street, this place is noisey, chaotic and 100% Brasil. We had beer and grilled fish at one of the food stalls, we saw DJ's on a bicycle, we saw hawkers and...More
