Overview
More
Largest hydroelectric power plant in the world, Itaipu is the current world record holder in power generation and is considered one of the 7 wonders of modern engineering. Built on the Parana River, the seventh largest river in the world, between Brazil and Paraguay, it is 8 km wide, has a maximum height of 196 m and a lake of 1350 km². Itaipu enchants not only for the dimensions and technical aspects, but also for being a vanguard in sustainability and tourism, with several options of visits, from the classic Panoramic Tour and the award-winning Special Tour, that leads to the interior of the plant, to boat trips on the lake and night tours of the plant. Visiting Itaipu is to know, closely, what human capacity can accomplish.

So named by the American Society of Civil Engineers, this facility is one of two reasons to visit Foz do Iguacu. As a civil engineer, this was a site not to be missed...and as my wife says, "every trip involves civil engineering". You need to...More

I took the extended tour that takes you into the dam. It was fascinating - you get to see the entire operation from the inside, including standing meters away from the turning turbine. Guidance in English was excellent. Recommended to book in advance on their...More

The dam was quite far away from everything. It was quite impressive how large the dam was, but there was hardly any water so that took away some of its image. You ride through the area with a bus with a guide speaking. Only thing...More

I recommend the Panoramic visit in the double deck bus and specially the cruise during sunset (approx. 5pm during the winter and 7pm during the summer) - both are very good experiences.

Size does matter Size does matter! Worth the visit just to see close up the massive scale of the entire set-up. Truly impressive!

We went for the nightly light show and were very happy with the quality. The show if free, but you have to register your name and info to get on the bus. The bus takes you over the dam to an observation amphitheatre where they...More

Hey! Yes, you can only book them directly at the dam. It's the most expensive option but I think it's worth it.

We took a regular tour bought at the ticket booth at the entrance of the power plant. The tour consisted of a short video, telling the history of the Itaipu power plant, followed by a diesel bus tour. There wasn~t any... More
