We were received by the artist himself who took his time to go through his amazing journey to become "Carcara". In a very poetic way he explained about the "birth of the Chicken", and how he had the idea to carve from the trunk of coconut trees all the theme chickens you can find all over "Porto de Galinhas" town. His art has a very strong eco-sustainability message, as he uses all kinds of materials saved from the trash. If you ever visit "Porto de Galinhas" please visit his workshop.

For around Real10 you take bus no. 195, which leaves every hour from Recife Airport , and in about 1,5 hours, depending on the traffic, you are at the ocean, in a small town with a funny chicken name..and it's decorated with man-size sculptures of chickens all along its main streets.. the place is in low season, lots of vacancies in all pousadas ( something between a hotel and a motel, depending on how much of an entrepreneur the owner is..). But don't take the first one... look around, bargain the price as they are all around Real 100-120, and for the same price the service is different. I was staying in pousada Porto d'Angola, with the same breakfast every day, impressively grey towels and a shower that almost never worked.. and across from it there was a brand new pousada with all the set you need while traveling.. but I was attracted by the small monkeys, sagui they are called here, living on a tree in my pousada front yard, and they came to share my lonely breakfast every morning..Nobody speaks English, so be well prepared when you go to have dinner or just want to buy a piece of local craft for memory..It's safe to walk all by oneself, and nobody tries to interfere you except for the vendors at the beach but they are the same everywhere.. Great beach, but no lockers or showers or just a place to change..enjoy your privacy in low season!

Took a look today through Tripadvisor. What beautiful works!! And most of the roots of dead palm trees. Gilberto talks passionately about his work!! Nice to look or buy if you are in the area!!
