The animals are in tiny cement boxes with no shade from the heat. Having animals from snowy countries such as the Siberian tiger is cruel when there is no shade or protection from the sun. The big cats, wolves and most of the monkeys are in little cement boxes that have no trees, fresh vegetation or enrichment toys. But my... More

The animals were pacing in the tiny cement cages no shelter from the sun no play toys the water was rancid that the hippos and bear had only one of each animal kept on their own. We took no pictures and one point I was welling up with tears. I am an experienced traveller and ive never seen anything so... More

The zoo is so sad; the animals are in tiny cement boxes with no shade from the heat. Having animals from snowy countries such as the Siberian tiger is cruel when there is no shade or protection from the sun. They have dozens upon dozens of monkeys and primates but all of them are kept separate from each other, again... More

This is a depressing place for animals. The big cats, wolves and most of the monkeys are in little cement boxes that have no trees, fresh vegetation or enrichment toys. The owls have no logs in which to hide during day (left in sun) and the bear has a disgusting green pond in which to swim. If like to see... More

For an entry fee of R$10 per person you can visit the zoo. Parking will set you back R$15 as well. There are a variety of animals but also a lot of cages under construction. Many cages are not well maintained and there is a smell in some areas. There is a small aquarium, not a big collection but interesting.... More

- and it is not my favourite. Animals tucked together in cages. Well. But as we are in a zoo, it was clean nicely kept, fairly interesting and not too bad. The entrance fee is 6 reais. This is great as the zoo is crowded by Cariocas enjoying their week-end.

Nice place for see South American animals, nice place for rest. But not enough open fields for animals - for photographing and watching. Price good - Only 6.00 Brazilian Reals There are some food pavilions in the zoo - but you must think before buy something to eat there. I think it's a good place for family visit!

When you visit Zoo like this one in Rio is when you wonder where are the people who campaign for animal rigths or where are the Brazilian authorities who allowed to keep animals in such poor and appalling conditions??? I do not think that Rio gets richer for the little money the zoo makes as the entrance fee is very... More

This is not so big ZOO placed in the park near the National museum. The entrance fee is OK. You can see here mainly South American animals (really a lot of birds and monkeys). This is normal good ZOO, but nothing extra special. If you have nothing to do in Rio and you have seen all the important monuments and... More
