With all the poverty in Rio, it's hard to see how they can justify spending money on this place, and it shows. Admission is 10 Real, and we wandered around this unappealing place for about an hour. Its only value was the shade and occasional interesting flora, unfortunately, all unsigned. I was going to give it 2 stars, but felt... More

The gardens are on a fairly formal layout, but it works really well. Beautiful trees and interesting little locations like the gunpowder factory, orchid house and carnivorous plant house. We also found plenty of birds, including toucans and hummingbirds as well as families of marmosets. Perfect respite of peace in the city.

Although very hot most of the year,it is a very nice place to visit. Watch and you will also see toucans, and lots of bird life. Always look around and listen and you may be surprised what you see.

I really liked it. Very peaceful place right in the big city of Rio. Once you get in, you completely forget that you are in such a big city. Just relax and enjoy peace looking at fantastic examples of plants, including Pau-Brasil, a tree that can't be found anymore in the country as the Portuguese in the 1500 took away... More

The gardens are very interesting with the variety of plants, its a relaxing and pleasant day out. Streams with small waterfalls and ponds with some very interesting fish. It is pretty big but well signed and nice paths to walk along. Away from the beach where it was extremely hot it was very pleasant to have shade and cooler (slightly).... More

Brazil is the only country in all Americas that had a king. In 1808 when the kingdom of Portugal moved to Brazil, the King D. Joao created the Botanic Garden in Rio. Till now is very well conserved and in my oppinion is the most beautiful Botanic Garden in the world. I reccomend if you like the nature.
