We are staying at the Sofitel which is at the southern most point of the Copacabana beach. From the road to the shore is the narrowest end the walk to the water from the top end is quite far. It's almost 10kms for a round trip. Some pretty cool architecture and countless food stalls and roaming people selling food and... More

Place is nice, with plenty of services for visitors. Constant peddlers get a bit bothering after a while. Couldn't find free bathrooms in the area.

We stayed at the Belmont Mirimar hotel and at excellent access to the beach. Clearly have seen many photos of the beach but the real thing was so much better. Had one free day so managed to have time on the beach and even entered the ocean. The facilities on the beach are excellent and a large number of cafes... More

was winter and cool, but sunny days had tanners and cloudy days just being at the beach. Lots of decent volleyball courts. I can imagine the summer crowd!

Fun place to go however I preferred the surrounding beach. As for beaches around the world go, this is an average beach, no surf (in Feb) water was very cold (15 degrees) somewhat polluted and there isn't much peace as you have people selling this constantly. Still a great place to go to get away from the hustle of the city... More

All human life is here. From the early morning walk along the beach through the glorious soft sand to the late night promenade, we enjoyed every minute of our visit.

Awesome beach and atmosphere! The waves were a little rough, but we still had a great time. From the great music, variety of street vendors, and restaurants. Felt like home.

I would not recommend to spend longer time than necessary at Copacapana. Well the beach is famous, but in fact its not a really impressive or beautiful one. It is overcrowded, not really safe and the water is also not so nice for swimming (too high waves). If you have just some time in Rio there are much better things... More

The Copacabana beach stretches for about 2.5 Miles (4 Km) and is more sophisticated and less busy than the adjacent Ipanema beach. Stop for a coconut water (5 Reais) or a caipirinha Brazilian cocktail. Watch the beach football/volleyball - very entertaining! It is worth an hour or so to visit to the fort at the southern end of the beach.... More

Staying in Copacabana

Neighbourhood Profile
Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.
