We came here to watch a family member on the Paralympics. As most of the games were in this suburb of Rio , we opted to stay here. Nice beach with great sand that stretched out for miles-and it felt much safer than Rio. We didn't care for the other famous beaches in Rio- they seemed much more busier and... More

On the other side of Morro Dois Irmãoes from Praia de Leblon you find Barra de Tijuca. Head for the praia(the beach), dont wast your time on shopping. Enjoy beachlife with a cold beer never far away. The beach, which is the longest in Rio, stretches all the way along Avenida Sernambetiba all the way to O Recreio dos Bandeirantes.... More

During the Olympics (when I was there) it was amazing. It has everything you need, from great restaurants, top hotels, and world class sporting facilities.

Don't get me wrong it is a wonderful progressive area. They have more malls than many US cities. But you won't get the real feel of Rio if you stay here. That having been said if you like modern amenities you may prefer to stay in Barra and travel to the other beaches. Just make sure you do!

This suburb twenty miles south of Rio was the location for the Rio Olympic Park which was the main competition center for the games with 16 different events held in an area of over 1 million square meters. Carioca Arenas 1,2 and 3, Rio Velodrome, Futures Arena, Aquatics Stadium, Maria Lenk Aquatic Center, and the Olympic Tennis Center were all... More

Nothing really here apart from the Olympic Park (which doesn't open until the end of the Paralympics in September unless you have tickets for an event)

If you go to Rio don't stay here. Its a distant suburb with none of Rio's vibrancy or charms. Its what the USA would look like if it did public transport? What's the point?

This place is terrible for pedestrians. You NEED a car and everything is just spread out. You are not in Brazil you feel like you are in the USA but they speak only Portuguese. This is just a mundane place full of towers and just shopping centres. Not very culturally enriching if you are looking for the "real Rio". I... More
