We followed the street signs to the church which is centrally located. The church is impressive from the exterior however inside it is beautiful. I was in awe at how impressive it was. Make sure you look up at the ceiling and marvel at the...More

The Candelaria Church is centrally located at the head of Avenida Presidente Vargas, at the intersection of Avenida Rio Branco in downtown Rio. There are many more interesting churches in Rio de Janeiro ( e.g: Mosteiro de Sao Bento, Capela de Gloria, Capela de Mayrink...More

This is an imposing building but is fairly typical of European cathedrals built in the maily baroque style over the 18/19th centuaries

beautiful church in baroque style right at the city centre. I definetly recommend it for a walking day at the city. Better go if you can combine with CCBB and with Museu do amanha.

I love visiting churches. It is not true that if you've been to one, you've been to all. This one has its unique features, like the lovely carved chairs and the painted and gold-leafed ceilings.

It was quite beautiful and ornate inside. The exterior was not well kept though and it made me sad. Some graffiti on the wall and some of the windows were broken out. If you are in the area its worth spending some time inside.

Definitely the most beautiful church in the city of Rio de Janeiro. A piece of European tradition to remind the architectural influence during colonial times. It's worth a visit especially right after the sunset when the lights and the sky colors builds a nice portrait.

Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born.
With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical
buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living

harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where
all major companies house their offices. However, the
region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like
the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that
