Went in to have a look inside the Mario de Andrade Libary, it's nice but nothing extraordinary. Very close to centro though.

BMA is a very quiet place to study or read. There you’ll find thousands of books, famous São Paulo’s newspaper And magazines. This library was closed for many years and now is well refurbished with plenty of shelves, tables and good light distribution. In this librar is possible to borrow some books but you need to show your ID and... More

I am a member of this library and would advise any foreign tourist or student to skip this place unless you can speak Portuguese as there is virtually no material - books, newspapers or magazines - in any other language. Getting in involves the usual infuriating registration system in which you have to present some official ID. As no-one trusts... More

A skyscraper full of books, designed by French architect Jacques Pilon in a sober art deco style. The first tower was ready in 1942, the second one ... was never built. Staying in Republica

Neighbourhood Profile
Republica
Part of the historical centre of São Paulo, República was once a fancy residential area. República Square holds a craft and food fair every weekend, right by the subway entrance. Nearby, one of the neighbourhood’s main attractions is the Italian Building, where you can see the city from the 42nd floor. The Copan Building also deserves a close look, with 1,160 apartments and a huge floor area that inspired filmmakers and other artists. To get the feeling of São Paulo in the beginning of the 1900s, visit the Municipal Theatre – you will be amazed by its architecture. The area also features several galleries. República is a great area to explore during daytime, but use caution if visiting alone at night.
