Occupying the historic headquarters of Brazil's largest bank, the CCBB features an ever-changing program of art exhibitions, photography, theater, documentaries and feature films, and other engaging cultural manifestations. The building itself is a Baroque jewel, situated in the old financial district of São Paulo, and avant-garde events, such as a recent blaxploitation film retrospective, keep the CCBB on every hip Paulistano's cultural agenda.

Right in the center of Sao Paulo, near Pateo do Colégio, is the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil. It is a building with some architectural interest. You can find a variety of expositions and or film exhibition. It is mostly free or with very little ticket price. It may be only a pit stop for a filtered gourmet coffee outside... More

In a historical building downtown, it's right in the center of the city. There you can watch art in many forms with affordable prices. Easy access by subway, or bus, and nearby there are other interesting places to see.

The charming historical building, which was the former Bank of Brazil headquarters, now houses interesting art exhibitions, musical concerts and films, most of them for free. The skylight and the vault are remarkable. The last exhibition I saw was The Triumph of Colour: post-impressionism, displaying beautiful works by Van Gogh, Gauguin, Toulouse-Lautrec, Cézanne, Seurat, Matisse and Kandinsky brought mostly from... Not for begging, but just to be around it and to be polite - the smell of human excrement. There are homeless people and they... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
To truly know São Paulo, you have to start at the old centre, full of history and landmarks with stories to tell. Get a taste of local food at the Municipal Market, and if you are brave enough, head to the crowded shopping street “25 de março” for cheap deals on a wide assortment of items. Beautiful buildings in this area include the Post Office Building, Luz Station, Pagé Gallery, Pateo do Colegio and the iconic “Viaduto do Chá”. If you find yourself amazed by the local language, the Museum of Portuguese Language is the place to go. Cultural centres, like Banco do Brasil’s, also offer a variety of entertainment options. Finally, if you fancy watching a Gregorian mass with organ music, stop by São Bento Monastery on a Sunday morning.
