Truly amazing

Absolutely worth a visit, the fortress is breath taking and the view point from the fortress of Veliko Tarnovo is equally great. I would highly recommend visiting this place!

Interesting monument with perfect city view. It was winter so there was almost nobody as it was cold, on the top you can buy drinks and snacks from a vending machine, also visit a small museum like a church

A castle spread out over a mountain, but in the middle of the city! On top is a weirdly modern-old church, quite interesting. Bring water and snacks, because you can stay here easily for an extended walk to soak in the rich history of Bulgaria and the view to the city. Key facts are provided by outside audio speakers in... Tsarevets is one of the most iconic historical places in Bulgaria. This is pure history. It takes hours to see everything in there. The place is huge and it reveals an amazing view to the whole city.

We had a great stay in Veliko Tarnovo and we enjoyed every corner of the town. But the fortress is a must - apart from being an authentic historical site, it provides spectacular views on the town and inside the fortress there is one of the most interesting churches I have ever seen. Definitely a must!

Came to Veliko Tarnovo mostly just to see this, and was not disappointed. A historic place from a time that isn't much in evidence in other major Bulgarian cities (despite a certain historical focus on the Bulgarian Empire in museums etc). You buy a ticket just outside the gate, but once you're inside you can wander to your heart's content.... More

This fortress is not very large but it is a dramatic moat-surrounded fortress which is like the gem of Veliko Tarnovo. It is composed of a hilly area surrounded by its fortress walls. Historically, this geographical location was an ideal place for defence against foreign invaders as the moat is deep down below and not one which can easily be... More

This is a must-see when you travel to Bulgaria. Even though it was raining when I visited, the experience was awesome. I would recommend reading up on the history so you get a better understanding of the historic importance of this amazing place
