After two months of visiting various 'plazas de armas' in Argentina and Chile this specific Plaza was so-so. As tends to be the case the Plaza does have a few significant structures adjacent to it, one being The Cathedral. My pics uploaded separately.

By contrast with Santiago, which has little historical charm, the centre of La Serena is very appealing. Stroll around the Plaza de Armas and neighbouring streets and you will feel like you are somewhere interesting! A festival was in full swing while we were in La Serena, resulting in vendors lining all sides of the square. I don't know if... More

I did not spend much time by the square, but I thought it was nice, clean and with good architecture. There are some nice cafeterias around it. La Recova is just 3 blocks away if first-time visitors want to see what's in there

When we visited La Serena, there was an arts festival going on so there were loads of activities in the plaza. I don't know if it is always crowded with little food stalls, handicrafts and people performing or dancing. Anyway, even without all the action, I am sure it is a nice little square.

The Plaza De Armas is a nice park with a lot of vendors. It is a great place to hang out and do a little souvenir shopping or to by a snack/beverage. A must see. It is a nice place to get picked up/dropped off for a cab as well.

I was really lucky because I got off the bus in Serena in the early hours and there were no people around. I got to see the city in the morning light without crowds or cars and it was beautiful. The Plaza is green and pretty with the pretty fountain in the middle. There was an artesenal market there and the... More

The main square in La Serena is clean, tidy and a nice place to sit on the grass and watch famiies enjoying the sunshine and people juggling. It is nice to go somewhere that there is a bit of grass but nothing special.

Noting special, but a clean and quite square in the middle of the city that is a few blocks away from the main avenue of shops so a bit quiet.

This is a good place to start a stroll of La Serena's shopping district. It is a handsome, well maintained square with a mordenist fountain in its centre and some decent architecture surrounding it. A nice place for a rest or a spot of people watching.
