Pretty Cathedral

Catedral de La Serena is a very beautiful piece of architecture, and it is very well kept. The outside as well as the inside are worth exploring.

In 1844, the construction of the present Cathedral began using the materials from the earlier church. Handling the project......French architect Juan Herbage.

Find Plaza de Armas and you cannot miss the Cathedral which is for my viewing the dominant feature about the Plaza. I gather the current structure occupies the location of the earlier 'mother church ' built by the Francisco de Aguirre order in 1549. It is the first Cathedral I have visited which was at one time the recipient of... More

The church is nice and build in the classic style used for Cathedral in South America. It has no speciel features a quirky details, but it worth a short visit is passing by. Don't spend any time on going there just for the Cathedral.

The interior ornamentation are beautiful if somewhat ornate. It is a place of serenity and peace and a good place to ponder and relax.

While we spent less than 10 minutes here, it was well worth the time spent after we browsed the nearby market. It was lovely and helped us understand a little more about life and the people here in La Serena -- the very reason why we love to travel.

nice clean and simple church. Nothing too special, but worth a look if you are passing by. It is worth a short 10 minute stop.

La Serena is famous for having loads of churches. This is the central cathedral, but it is nothing special...a few arches, some pictures of saints and a couple of crosses. If you particularly like churches then visit it, but it will be 10 minutes of your life that you'll never get back.

After a very inexpensive local bus ride to La Serena's square from the port of Coquimbo Chile we had a pleasant time walking around this area and through this picturesque church, nothing outstanding but nice to see. There were many other niche stores and sites around the church and square.

The catedral is a wonderful example of the influence of "the Church" om Chile. And of the determination of the people who continue to support it.
