I am a novice skier and struggled with the ski part but coming here was a wonderful experience for the incredible natural beauty, the highest mountain range in the world outside of the Himalayas and a beautiful lake. European ski instructors come here as the seasons are switched. My ski instructor was Austrian. It was great fun in the evenings... More

Portillo is a very good place to ski and often has the best snow in Chile. Places a little further south like Nevados de Chilllan get more snow but Portillo has better quality powder and since the resort is located in a steep, sun protected valley Portillo usually has better late season conditions than other resorts in Chile. A big... More

Although you can day ski at Portillo in some higher snow years, day visits are often restricted during leaner snow years or busy hotel periods. I recommend calling before day visiting. Also, only parts of the hotel are open to day visitors. My review below includes details about Hotel Portillo as well. If you want to truly enjoy Portillo, I... More

The entire area is above treeline. Along with the great views of the surrounding mountains, lake and hotel, this means that visibility can drop to zero during storms. On our first day there we hired an instructor to show us "how to ski Portillo." Fortunately, it was our one stormy day of the week. We were the first people to... More

A great place for a day trip from Santiago. The ski resort is amazing and the lake is beautiful. If you are not staying here you have very little to do since it really caters to the skiers.

Portillo is a very beautiful place, where you can take good pics of the mountains. Like a Ski Resort, there's some safety issues: some skilifts haven't signals to warn you about where and when you have to get down of the lift; is very complicated when you are a first timer in the place. Beside that, the tracks are good... More

This weekend we went with my family to know (and skiing) to Portillo ski center. We heard about how beautiful it was, and it’s beautiful landscapes. Just arrived and my 4 year old daughter wanted to go to the bathroom (natural after more than 2 hours of traveling from Santiago), so we went to the ticketing area assuming there were... More

Her whole family had a blast skiing this area lots to do. Combination of groomed and un groom trails. Ski lifts and lift attendances are terrific! Slingshots take a little getting used to just remember to hold the Palma up high under you.

Took a full day trip from Santiago to the lake at Portillo (2 hour drive on good roads) . The ski resort was very quite in January. The lake view is stunning and there is a short walk for the more adventurous, who don't wishstay for lunch at the lodge.

I saw the resort in January, outside the ski season. Most places were closed. It is close to Santiago. It is a good place for skying.
