The entire way of Paso de Jama is fascinating from the beginning when you leave San Pedro. This street is completely paved until you need to leave the street to reach the Salar de Tara. As soon as you leave the street a 4x4 vehicle is suggested because it's sandy and dusty (not sure if its possible without 4x4). The... More

This is one of the coolest places to enjoy nature around the Atacama. You drive in the desert, not really knowing where exactly, but then you start seeing the rock formations taking shape, the salt plain, animal, birds and no one else in sight. Beautiful combination of natural elements that give life to this place. And the drive through the... More

Really crazy terrain. PIctures do not do this justice, you just have to see it in person! You could probably bike here from San Pedro De Atacama, but I really enjoyed the commentary from our guide to help us KNOW and understand what we are looking at. Worth the price to do a tour.

It is a long drive from San Pedro. We went over a pass at 4900 m / 16,000 ft; one person in our group got altitude sickness. The lava formations sticking up out of the ground are interesting. There is much driving on dirt "roads", so is bumpy. Not much rain or oxygen, so very little plant life.

Is one of the highest altitude tours in san pedro, we organized a tour package with Towanda Tours and we were really happy, A day full of beautiful landscapes and lots of peace. Definitely a place to visit.

This place is awesome, you can get the by 4x4 car or you can take a tour. Is is located 100 km away from San Pedro de Atacama, but it is not only the salar, there are much more on the way there, for instance "monjes de la pacana"

We booked the tour with our hostel (mama Tierra) and it was amazing. The places are not si crowded as Moon Valley but are far more interesting. Bring a jacket!

This is most definitely a must for anyone interested in desert geology and also the birds that reside at the Salar de Tara.

Most agencies offer this tour at somewhere around 50,000-60,000 CLP. The standard of the service varies greatly so choose the agency wisely! I booked with Desert Adventures and had a good experience here. The scenery and landscapes were incredible and the day was full of amazing views. The tour is approximately 08:00-16:00. A fair amount of time is spent in... More

Salar de Tara is one of those must-see places in San Pedro de Atacama. However, it is also a bit further away and only accessible by 4x4. Most operators only go there during the weekend. That said, go! It is a full day adventure with several stops along the route that are all worthwhile. However, and this is a serious... More
