Lots of Famingoes, different subspecies of them as well. Very very dry area, so bring water along as skin and lips tend to dry out fast. The colors of the flamingoes are amazing and seeing them fly is also very beautiful.

This place was amazing to see beautiful flamingos In their natural environment. We were a bit out of the season in April (later in the year - they are there in hundreds) but we still saw dozens and they were so graceful. Feeding, gliding in...More

Another beautiful and scenic place activity in Atcama area you must visit. I like it better in the morning and evening because the light is softer and better for photo taking. The flamingo are very nice to take pictures if you have a high power...More

Drove out toward Tacanao from San Pedro, and ended up at Reserva Nacional. The drive was absolutely beautiful, with nice views of the mountains. It is amazing to be in the desert, and the trip here certainly gets you that! However, the actual site was...More

It was good to see the flamingos even if it was at distance of several hundred metres. Nice to know they're thriving.

The flamingos were a long way away when we visited. In winter the lakes have three species, we were told. There are other water birds, too. The landscape around the wetland is pretty barren but the fringing mountains provide a dramatic backdrop. Take binoculars.

This salt flat looks completely different from the one we saw in Uyuni, but a different kind of beauty. It's a salt flat lagoon 360-degree surrounded by mountains. The view, with or without the flamencos, is totally breath-taking!

This reserve is quite big, you can go to the salar which is the easiest and closest or keep on going to the different lagoons. You need to rent a car or take a tour to get there. The sun is really hot so I...More

Drive yes. Camp no. But I remember seeing a camping site close to San Pedro
