We ended our camel ride somewhere close to the Crescent Moon spring where we just walked over and explore. There is a man-made pavilion where you can enter and there are also fishes swimming in the water.! (Didn’t really have time to explore the whole area since we went for other activities) Basically, an aerial view of the crescent moon... More

It is quite surprise to see a lake in the sand dunes. It was quite good view to climb up the dunes to take pictures of the lake. But it was touristy spot, many people, many camels.

Crescent Moon Lake (月牙泉) is located inside Echo Sand Dune (鸣沙山). It's a package no extra entrance fee. If you have time to explore the sand dune, just take your times and you will somehow reach Crescent Moon Lake. The view of the lake against a pagoda, sand dune and blue skies made excellent photo shots! I must say the... More

The Crescent Moon Pool is a beautiful little desert oasis with a small Buddhist Temple / Pagoda surrounded by large and magnificent sand dunes. A small amount of flat walking is required (assuming you don't want to climb the massive dunes), although Golf type buggies are available if too hot !!! The site is located only about 3km from Dunhuang.... More

I have always wanted to visit the Crescent Lake oasis ever since I received a random postcard in the mail. Though it was crowded with tourists sporting their bright orange shoe protectors, I enjoyed my hike up the dune and slide down on a makeshift tobaggan. There are plenty of extra activities you can do at a price and the... More

This is a very picturesque spot although much smaller than you might imagine. From a very large car park you approach and get your tickets. once through the barrier you pass by some small vendors until you turn and see the sand dunes. You also notice up to 1,000 camels which will transport you on a 45 minute stroll across... More

This place has seen a lot of Dunhuang's histolry, especially the past 100+ years. It's a combination of amazing nature and history of this wonderful city on the silk road.

I enjoyed the place. This oasis surrounded by the desert made me feel like a character of an arabic story or movie. It was really strange to find such a place in China or at least such I felt. It's not much to see, but the sightseeing is incredible. A hint: climb the sand hills up to the peak (it's... More
