Tibetan statues are the real masterpieces of art. Great and unexpected experience. The most striking fact is that statues are real. Rest of items and pictures in the Center are copies.

The museum and other sections of the complex illustrate the amazing history and cultural and religuous significance of the grotto. Not just are the known images highlighted and explained but the day to day life of the monks is also illustrated.

This centre gives a great insight into how the Mogao cave paintings were made, and how easily they can be damaged by oxidation. If you visit the caves, you should come here too.

Next to the caves, in a modern exhibition hall, this Center provides all you need to know on the Grottoes. Comprehensive and clear explanations, most of them bilingual in Chinese + English. Well worth spending at least 1h at.

A great deal of the museum deals with the preservation process over the years. There is also some information about the techniques used to build these caves including how they made color pigments. Quite good and you are out of the sun for a while.
