You are transported to Tibet with a visit to this temple. A lot of walk , so avoid entering in case you have problems walking. However, that doesn't stop you from a photo shoot from outside.

This is a must-see, as much because the place is nice to walk in, must the building is charismatic. Under (badly needed) renovation when we went there, it will be definitively something that will be impressive by its dimensions, decoration, and deep spirituality.

There wasn't much to see in Chengde, but I think this is one of the most beautiful sites in the city. Even though the architecture might be considered just a copy of Tibetan buildings and the temples are not as preserved as they should, the...More

Even though they are not very well maintained and they charge a lot for entrance fees, they are great places to visit and to understand the history during the Qing period. The temples are all for different groups and different religions. But all are very...More

Just 3hours away from Beijing where temperatures were very high, this place was paradise. The temples are beautiful and peaceful, away from the crowds of Chinese tourists that filled the Mountain resort. Climbing was easy because you stop in all the gates and enjoy the...More

The origin of these temples is more interesting than the actual buildings which are nicer to be seen from far than actually visited in detail. Emperor Qianlong (major Qing dynasty, the last one) wanted to treat his western colleagues from Tibet (an old chines preoccupation)...More

Visited Putuozongcheng, mini replica of Tibet's Lhasa Potala Palace. Quite a climb from the car park but very beautiful grounds. May be a mini version of the one in Tibet, but big enough and very impressive!

The Outer Temples are accessible from Chengde by a normal city bus (118 if I remember correctly) for 1 yuan, if you don't mind the 500m walk from the bus stop up the road where the first temple is, and then walking from one to...More

The 8 temples are easily reached by taxi from central Chengde - 10 -15mins at most. Entrance fees are a standard 80RmB but the tickets usually cover two or more temples as long as you visit them on the same day. The bigger temples have...More
