Tip : buy the combined ticket for 280yuans (Mountain resort, Potala and Punning Temple) if you're going to visit the main sights. You can add HammerRock the price would be 320yuans if I remember. The summer palace in itself has nothing special if you already been in this kind of building around China. No what is very nice is the... More

I have read that visiting the mountain resort can be disappointing after having seen the palaces in Beijing - well, we were actually in Chengde first, still, I found this place rather unspectacular. It is certainly a piece of Chinese history, but the buildings are very simple and you cannot see much from outside. Whilst this simplicity might be an... More

Really liked this place. It's absolutely vast and astonishing. Having seen the big European palaces like Versailles, it brings it home how amazing Chinese history is and how little we learn about it in the West. Get there early. It's packed and busy and lots of walking. But well worth it if you have a good guide who can explain... More

145 rmb to enter was a bit on the pricy side so we had huge expectations as entering. First we saw the building and that area was very small, a bit feeling of a super mini forbidden city and then there'd was the exit and we were super surprised as this was not worth the ticket, however as exiting we... Went there on a cold sunny day. Not that many people in what is quite a large park. The calm atmosphere makes a very nice place to go for an afternoon walk.

We visited the Mountain Resort on 30th October. The day was grey and dull. Everything was shut for Winter.. no boats; Pagoda locked up; no train to ferry you to the northern section; could not get up wall to view the mini Potala Palace. The entrance fees went to winter pricing the following day. We felt ripped off given everything... More

How the emperors lived. The site is very large and beautiful. You can sit on a shuttle to save a little bit of walking. Too bad I went in the fall so the gardens were not in full bloom but just lovely nevertheless.

This place is huge, approx 2.2 sq miles and one will need more than a day to go thru the whole complex. This is a must visit attraction for history buffs. It was interesting to see a frozen lake and to walk on a frozen solid river, especially for the kids as we come from a tropical country. Its a... More
