This would have been a much better experience without the rain. The heavens opened and it poured for the entire time we were there. The steps to see the grottoes were therefore slippery. The view of the stone Buddha from across the river was obscured...More

China will never stops to amaze me ... the more I see of it the more I am impressed! I "did the homework" before coming to this site (read about it and prepared for sightseeing). It is completely different to read about 110.000 Budha figures...More

A place steeped in History . The sandstone carvings are so impressive, you can even walk into the caves to see them up close. A little difficult for those older people but you can still see the wonder of it all as you stroll along...More

Whoever thought the Longmen caves would make a big tourist attraction did everything to disencourage a visit. Big entrance buildings, huge squares, long walkways. From our taxi parking we were forced to walk 2km (!) in scorching sun before we saw a glimpse of the...More

An incredible sight, beautiful scenery along the river, nicely preserved and protected caves and statues. A very chill atmosphere. Entered from north gate on west side at around 11am, no crowds, surprisingly quite empty for a Chinese sight such as this one. More people started...More

Absolutely don't miss this. It's foreigner friendly and easy to get to from Luoyang. Like many of China's destinations there will be a lot of walking and stairs involved so take the electric car ride. If possible avoid coming in August as the heat and...More

Anywhere between 2 & 4 hours depending how quickly you like to walk. Lots of stairs/steps up involved, so you need to rest once in a while
