We rented bicycles and cycled all the way to Xizhou from Dali and back, which was just under 40km. You can rent bicycles either from your hotel/hostel or from the old town. Most people we came across rented scooters which is much easier, of course,...More

Don't know what the fuss is about this very commercial old town and how it is different to Dali The Yan family compound was interesting and worth the 30RMB fee. I was glad I went to see that but glad I didn't stay there in...More

Venture into areas where regular tourists don't go and you will be pleasantly surprised. The wood carving artisans, the food makers, the old houses, temples and history. Could you imagine that workers from shanghai came here to build houses - that is how rich this...More

Lots of great photo opportunities, friendly shop-keepers, restaurants, and artisan shops in a beautiful landscape. It's the real deal. Relax and enjoy - be friendly and you will be rewarded.

Xizhou town is a place that people actually live and work. This is in contrast to the old towns of Dali and Lijiang, which have been consumed by tourism. The shops here are mostly unique, and unlike much of china, sell items that can't be...More

We stayed in this town for one night and walked the week market in the morning. Such a lovely place, so original and natural, the locals selling there products, the live stock, and the people traditionally dressed, very nice! Arie
