Shuhe is a small village a couple miles to the north of Lijiang, in Yunnan province. It has similar old architecture as Lijiang with similar places to buy Naxi woven cloth and products from local artisans. A major advantage over Lijiang is that it is relatively unknown so the streets are much less crowded and food and lodging is cheaper. In addition to woven goods, there are stores selling wood carvings, Naxi style pottery and silver filigree jewelry. There was an elderly artist whose paintings were all done with the edge of his thumb producing quite astonishing images.

A distance away from the city of Lijiang. Picturesque as Shuhe has both old and new architectures. Again, I was there during maintenance period, so be careful when wandering around this ancient city. Smaller walkways than Lijiang old town and calmer and peaceful as less density in term of people. Enjoyed strolling along the shops and cafes of lovely and... More

We stayed in Shuhe as we were advised it was more relaxing than staying in Lijiang and we were not disappointed. It really is a lovely place to just wander around.

Though a little more pristine that Lijiang old town, it is largely tourist-centered. The real treat here is the fact it's a popular destination for photo-shoots of couples about to be married. A festival of contemporary Chinese kitsch.

Pleasant town with all the tell tale signs of commercial tourism in China, also has some unique spots like the Tea and horse Museum within to check out. Some decent places to eat if you search. Good for a stroll if you have time but probably will not amaze you.

This town used to be a village and was built into what it was today by developers. Hence the buildings, though made to look like the Da Yan Ancient Town, all looked new. There's no entrance fees to this ancient town. The shops are pretty much the same as Da Yan Ancient Town but the scale of the entire town... More

Shuhe isn't a must see by any means. It's still touristy just like the ancient town in Lijiang. Nevertheless, it's much quieter and if you are looking for a more relaxing place, this would be it. There is a small river that runs through the town with cafes dotted beside it. Great place for drinking tea, reading a book, and... More

束河古镇 is smaller than the old town in Lijiang city. It is less commercialized and worth a visit. I would spend at least 3 hours here. It is popular in the evening too in the bars.

Plenty of places to eat and get coffee and cake, very peaceful and not harassed by shopkeepers. Nice and quiet place for a stroll in the evening.

Beautiful city/village. We where lucky to be there during a yearly festival so lots of dance and music in the evenings as well as offerings with burning torches
