We were awed: by the shear magnitude of the volcanoes height, power and heat; the challenge of the steep hike; the embrace of the guides, porters, cook/DJ and our leader - Tresor. An all round unforgettable experience of a lifetime.

This is an 8km hike that starts at 1900m and ends at 3490m after about 5 hrs for an overnight stay at the summit. There are areas of the trail that can be challenging that I would rate as at least moderate. For the uphill climb there are 4 breaks with nice views along the way if the weather is... More

This place is just out of this world. If you are in Goma you should do it even if you are not a big hike lover. Views from the top are absolutely worth the effort! We organized our trip with help of Innocent from EcoTours. They took care of everything starting from arranging our entry visas to DRC and ending... More

A truly breathtaking experience. The hike was well organised, the cabanas on the crater were quite good given circumstances, the view fantastic. Very expensive, but completely worth it.

have you seen such a sight! Standing on the rim of the Nyiragongo caldera after a gruelling 5 hour hike up a more than 30% grade you will be faced head on with the realization of what the earth actaully is and you will be awed, humbled and astounded at the world's largest lake of molten lava bubbling, twisting, forming... This is an amazing hike. The guides are wonderful and the food at the top is also really good. We loved the shelters at the top. Views are awesome. I can't say anything negative this hike. The one thing though is people need to think long and hard about this hike. My wife and I hike pretty often in the... More

The hike itself is almost worth the money in my opinion (beautiful vegetation and then bare volcanic rocks above the clouds). And when you get to the crater and you'll never question the money you paid, your lack of organisational skills, the freezing temperatures or the effort it took to get up there again! It is honestly one of the... More

It's a pretty tough hike, but worth every step. Took us about 6.5 hours (you'll walk at the pace of your slowest climber) Divided into sections so you can stop for food/drinks etc. Mainly walking on loose lava rocks, which is hard going. Hire a porter, it's worth the money. We had overnight packs, food and a cook supplied by... More

Just climbed the active volcano, Mount Nyiragongo (3470 m) to watch the amazing lava lake at the summit in Congo. The volcano erupts a few times very century (last in 2002 when it destroyed the city of Goma).
