Great for souvenirs and trinkets. Lots of locals and far less gringos than we were expecting. You won’t be able to haggle much and we found it to be much more expensive than similar markets else where on the continent. If you’re brave go and...More

Had a very good time exploring the Otavalo Market. Tons of different things to see and do, and if you like to bargain, then this is a great place. Walked around and just took in this great place.

Our schedule did not allow us to visit on a Saturday, but even on a Friday the market was quite active. I was told the vendors start setting up at 7 am but we started at about 10am and explored all the stalls that had...More

We went on a Saturday and there were stalls and kiosks stretching on and on. There are so many items to look at. You negotiate a price that is 75% or less than their original asking price. This was so much fun shopping here. Now...More

The guide books suggest Otavalo Market is the best in South America well who am I to disagree however it is a little too touristy in places. There is a lot of stuff to buy and if you haggle you can get a decent price....More

Make a point of visiting Otavalo Market for all your shopping needs and don't forget to Bargain for every thing you want to buy. I really enjoyed our shopping trip there and the friendly vendors were wonderful too.

So we were advised to stay nearby so that we could go to the big Saturday market. But it’s really a tourist market and many things you can buy for better quality at a similar price in the local shops. Quite busy. No interesting foods...More

The market would be a middling place at best except for 2 things: (1) it's located in the mountains of Ecuador; (2) it's full of authentic indigenous people, some of whom are traditionally costumed, and also kind of colorful. That said, it's not nearly as...More

The open air market is well set out in central Otavalo with lots of stalls in rows around a central area. It can be a bit like walking through a maze at times because of the number of stalls selling similar goods. One thing that...More

This market was huge, it covered a whole block and more, we walked and walked along the aisles of handmade items, leather goods, hats, and accessories. I loved the embroidered table runners and kitchen towels.

Prices are quite negotiable and you can get great deals. We usually started at 50% and settled in the 30% range. There is no standard as some vendors are more willing to bargain than others. They will supply used bags. We... More
