Nice market

A lot of stalls offering hand crafted jewellery and clothing. There are few banks ATM around that area if you fancy to buy any of these goods.

We really enjoyed walking through the parts of this market used by the locals. We were particularly amused by the man with some curtains showcased on a pole which he hoped to sell to us! The touristy parts were less interesting. Lots of goods which were not great quality although prices reflected that. Definitely worth a visit.

I wanted to buy all the sweaters and ponchos. Shop around before you buy!!! Don't be afraid to bargain, some people will try to rip you off. Example: I bought a sweater for $20 and then tried to buy 2 from someone else and he asked for $60.

Otavalo is a small city and was founded in 1829. Here there are many pretty and interesting places to visit, such as Cascada de Peguche, Plaza de los Ponchos, El Lechero, Laguna de San Pablo. Cascada de Peguche have three waterfall. The tree waterfall are really nice. Amazing photos are taken for the tourists. Other touristic place is the Plaza... More

This market just moved to a new location starting this year. We were told it is much cleaner than the old market. Since it was brand new, no all the stalls are filled. The market is mainly for fresh food. Meat, spices, fruit, veggie, and a few stalls of clothing and flowers. It was fun to walk around. Our tour... More

Excellent selection but not A to Z. Vendors insistent but polite. Some stunning colours and stuff but probably better quality in Quito. The indigenous folk are amazingly talented and it is a joy to talk with them even in broken Spanish. You need to come here but it is a long trip for the experience.

You can find different type of local crafts in this market. It is also a great way to meet the local who actually made the crafts. Sharpen you bargaining skill before you come here. Some of the things you find at the market include: bags, shawls, scarves, pottery items, wool items, embroidery and handmade clothing and table cloth, napkin, pillow... More

Fun shopping experience. Good source of textiles, regional jewelry and regional art objects. Plenty of good restaurants to choose from in the area. Really enjoyed the day there.

Otavalo is a city that is surrounded by volcanoes, mountains, lakes, corn crops and located north of Quito. Overall it is a magical setting full of color and beauty, with very friendly and charismatic people. Where the city is a mixture of history, customs, culture and folklore.
