Every trip with Khaled (Western Desert Tours) is an unforgettable experience, whether for a few days or longer, whether in a group or alone. And it's something completely different to get off the beaten track and spend a longer time in the desert. I had the privilege of such an individual trip: 8 days over 500 km off-road - 150 km of which were completely without a track: a real adventure. The journey took us through the sea of the Abu Muharriq dunes, to the Djara Cave, which is enchanting with its stalactites and paintings from the Stone Age, and to parts of the western White Desert that are far removed from the tourist trail. Apart from a (smuggler's?) jeep in the distance, we didn't meet a soul....
Deserts can touch and change you on a deep spiritual level. I am touched by the absolute silence, but above all by the landscape, unaltered by man, in its immeasurable size and natural beauty, the complete absence of civilization. I am touched by the colors that change with the light, the soft shapes of the wind-sculpted dunes, the stones and rocks covered in desert varnish. Every evening, the Milky Way with its millions of stars, the clear star constellations and the course of the cosmos cast a spell over me. I am amazed at how the history of the earth and mankind can be seen here: Corals, ammonites, trees and fruit that lived 100 million years ago and are now smoothly polished stone, next to arrowheads from the Stone Age and the skeleton of a Roman child or a camel spine from the time of the great caravans. I am touched by how the desert simply lets me BE, completely in the NOW.
This was my fourth time on the road with Khaled and his team. As always, I am impressed by the outstanding professionalism, but above all by the dedication with which the tour is planned and carried out: The delicious, freshly prepared meals with fine vegetables from the oasis' private gardens, cooked over a campfire. And no meal is complete without tea. The cozy camp; a palace with a million stars. The high level of security: Kahled knows the Western Desert like the back of his hand. He is a master navigator and it is a pleasure and a privilege to explore new tracks with him. And mechanic Achmed ensures that the jeeps survive the rigors. The whole trip is a real pleasure...
We are already planning our next adventure. My dream: 14 days through the Great Sand Sea from Siwa down to the Stone Age caves in the Gilf Kebir Plateau...Inshallah...

After some years of desert abstinence, together with a friend I experienced 3 wonderful days in the Black Desert and the White Desert. In recent years, Khaled and his team have perfected their already excellent service: Everything worked out wonderfully, including pick-up and drop-off in Cairo by a very good, safe driver. They bring everything, you don't have to worry about anything. In the evenings, they cook wonderfully on the gas stove and on the fire, slow food at its best! If you don't like to sleep outside under the beautiful desert sky, they have a tent for you. We were treated like VIP - a wonderful example of the proverbial oriental hospitality. Both Khaled and Mahmoud speak good English. We had very interesting conversations and learned a lot about the desert thanks to Khaled's wide knowledge. We will come again – in sha Allah.

We had a three day tour to the black and white desert, with two nights in the desert. It was really amazing! The guide and driver are super friendly, very helpful and knowledgeable. Also, they are excellent cooks! Besides amazing landscapes, we also found some fossils and had multiple visits of cute foxes.

Amazing experience! We went for a 3 day (2 nights) tour and had a fantastic time! Our guides were welcoming and kind and we saw beautiful sight and had great food. I would super recommend it! Even if you’re not one for camping (like me), it’s still worth it. It really is a beautiful and fun experience.

We had an amazing time and would recommend this tour to everyone. They know what they are doing and you get quality in every aspect of the word. Pictures don't do the trip justice - you have to go yourselves (and more than one night ;)). We'll be back!

One of the best trips we've had! Perfect organization of the whole trip. First of all, great contact in English with Khaled. He replied to all emails. There were no unexpected difficulties or delays. In Cairo, the driver of a comfortable and air-conditioned car was waiting for us, who took us to ozay. He was very punctual and polite. On the way we had two stops to rest, coffee at a gas station. In the oasis we had a very tasty lunch in a Bedouin family restaurant where we ate traditional local dishes. The chef was very friendly and nice. We liked the food. Then we could leave larger luggage in the oasis, and we packed smaller backpacks with things for the desert into an off-road car, in which we set off to the desert together with the driver and guide. We chose a program with one night in the White Desert. The program is perfectly matched. Our guide was very experienced and knew exactly what and at what time is best to see. He planned the program in such a way that we watched various wonders of nature, that the degree of attractiveness of each place increased with each subsequent attraction. It is worth trusting him and relying on his experience in knowing the desert. Thanks to this, we did not burn ourselves with the sun, despite the season (July) and 40 degrees in the shade, the trip was not tiring. The guide knew all the attractive places well and knew what time they are best lit for taking pictures. Our driver was also very experienced and drove the off-road car very efficiently, giving us moments of joy and laughter driving in the desert. But it was a safe ride. Our guide and driver spoke English, so there were no problems with communication and it was very nice to talk to them around the fire. They both make a great team like a dream team, you can see that they understand each other very well. In addition, they are very open, friendly, but polite and polite. We were impressed how quickly they were able to set up a camp, how they prepare meals together, know the desert and can even summon a desert fox. They both care very much about the natural environment and cleanliness, there is no garbage left after our camp. The food prepared in the desert was traditional, filling and tasty. The guide prepares an excellent Bedouin tea that you must try because it is unique. The guide and the driver looked after us very well during the trip and made us remember this trip as amazing for a long time. There are many companies offering tours to the Western Desert, but if you want everything to be perfect, choose Western Desert Tours.

Khaled organized a wonderful seven-night camping expedition for us. It took in the Black and White Deserts, ‘Magic Spring’ and Djara Cave, and then continued along the dunes and down the escarpment into Dakhla. We particularly valued Khaled’s enthusiasm for desert geology and archaeology and the driving, camp-making, catering and companionship of Mahmoud, Bidu, Hamadu and Ahmed. Highlights included, but were not restricted to:
- The ‘in-your-face’ geology we saw everywhere
- The Church of St. George at Ain al Ris
- Petroglyphs at Djara Cave
- Khaled’s ‘cabinets of curiosities’ in the desert
- Vast landscapes without people
- Foxes, gerbils, ravens, hoopoe larks, & even ladybirds in the dunes
- Dill, halva, oasis tea and Ahmed's wife's biscuits.

We got this recommendation from some friends who loved it. The company communicated by WhatsApp and picked us up in Cairo. It was about 4 hours to the oasis and they made sure we had lots of water. We got to their house and switched cars to Land Cruisers for the desert. Stopped at another place for a quick lunch and tea and off to see some truly amazing wonders of nature; crystal mountain, black desert and white desert. Feels very much like a different planet. Went back to their house for dinner and we were back in Cairo by midnight. Great experience and guides were professional.

We found The Western desert Tours online, and communicated through WhatsApp. From the beginning everyone you talked to from the company was very welcoming and pleasant. On the day of our tour we were picked up by Omar who would take us to the pick-up point.
Omar was great all the way. At the pick-up point we meet our guides and had a huge lunch. The guy that owns the place was super sweet and actually lend us a bathroom for shower on the way back.
And then we met our guide Guenesi and the his partner Hamuoda they were super nice to us from the beginning. Start with the black desert and went climbing to one of the top Mountain. Nice view from top and and our guide gave us enough time and never rush. After black desert to Crystal Mountain and it was unbelievable a stop for pictures and relaxing and stretching.
All the way drive to white desert and on the way to multiple stops for every view points. Even offered sand board but we dint
At the end in white and Guenesi and Hamouda gave us time for sunset and at same time our camp was ready so fast and some wood to make fire. Amazing sunset.
Guenesi told us alot about the desert. Well experience guide and Hamouda have good driving skills and also a good singer
Thank you western desert tour and many thanks to our tour leaders ( Guenesi and Hamuoda)

Hi, is there a tour that includes going to both the Siwa Oasis and the White Desert?
Hallo!
Ich weis das Touristen zur Zeit keine Erlaubnis für Reisen in die Weiße und Schwarze Wüste erhalten. Wie wird das von allen Anbietern die hier ihre Touren anbieten ermöglicht?

My parents and I are interested in riding ATVs through the desert. Would this be possible? We are planning to visit mid-April.

Hi Sylvia,
Yes it should be possible. I was there in mid-march and it was fantastic. the weather can get windy though it could get sandy everywhere. But these guys are the and they will take great care of you people and ensure you get the best of the black and white desert. the journey time from Cairo to the desert area is significant so youll have to put aside atleast half a day for getting there and half a day for coming back. The food we had at the bahariya oasis was the best i ate in all of egypt! If you have more particular questions, please ask me and i would be happy to help if i can. Not exactly sure what you mean by ATV though, do you mean you want to ride the vehicle yourself?

Is it possible to start a tour for White desert from Cairo early in the morning and come back same day night after covering Black Desert, Crystal Mountain, White Desert and Golden Mummies in Bahariya Oasis

You could do it - but I would strongly recommend against it.
The drive from Cairo to the Black & White Desert is at least 4 hrs. and you would want to spend some time in the desert.
If you don't want to return half dead and totally exhausted in Cairo, I would definitely plan to stay 1 night in the Oasis Bahariya. A good hotel to stay there is the "International Hot Springs Hotel". It is owned by a German/Japanese couple who live in Egypt for decades. So they know the best of both worlds.
