You can walk/climb to the Gebel al Ingleez, north-east of Bawiti. At the flat top are the remains of a castle from the first world war, built by captain Williams to control the area. From the top, but also half way, you have a nice view at the surrounding mountaineous and bare area.

It is 30 mins walk from international hot spring hotel. Very nice easy walk. You end up on a high point where there was a british security point in a.spot that oversees the whole oasis.
We loved it but the ruins are not impressive in themselves just the bit of history behind it.

A low hill on the approach to Bawiti whose name means 'hill of the English', this is crowned with a ruined house that was said to be built by the 'Englishman' (actually Australian) Claude Williams, first World War army captain and commander of the Light Car Patrols. It is said that he built the house as his home and headquarters whilst the LCP units (using Model T Fords) kept an eye on marauding Senussi tribesmen coming into Egypt from Libya. Recent research casts doubt on this however. Nevertheless its a fascinating ruin that you can easily access from the road with a competently-driven 4x4 or on foot or mountain bike and there are stunning views from the top, although they are a little spoiled by the stench of human urine and the Arabic graffiti everywhere.

There is a bit of hike to get to final lookout area which is the remains of a basalt fortress built by British troops during WW1 as a lookout to monitor Libyan incursions but once there, the walk is worth it.

Near Qasr el bawiti Hotel, this mountain was very nice we watched sunset on it and it was a good place to stay in for few hours

The place with history (there are ruins of a military post from WWII) and great views especially during sunset. We could relax there looking down the Oasis.

This hike takes about 1 hour from the bottom and the view just before sunset is lovely. You need someone to drive you to the bottom so hire a driver for a few hours, its cheap.
