Takes a little to find your way to the entrance of the Fortress but once you are there there is a LOT to climb on and to discover. There are no inscriptions or even recognizable buildings but this is a cool place to visit and to climb around.

Siwa oasis hosted for millennia a very isolated oasis community with its own distinctive culture and language. It was only after a pave road was built from Marsa Matrouh to Siwa in the 1970s that the isolation rapidly reduce. Shali Fortress, as all traditional Siwa housing, was built with kharshef, a mix of clay and salt which is unique building... More

Delightful view from a stunning historic sight. By Day you can see all of Siwa and by night the starry night from up there is breathtaking.

What more can you say? It's a very old fortress yet interesting for ruins-enthusiasts. If you care about small details and ancient stuff you will like it but bring some head cover as the sun will burn.

On a clear day, of which there is plenty in Siwa, you can take the steps off the right side of albaab-n... More

Although this fortress is in disintegration , it is a fascinating sight same as the one in Morocco. It was built from kershef( salt rocks).

A fascinating and otherworldly place to explore - a half-ruined, half-inhabited remains of an ancient mud citadel. Each successive rainstorms makes it less and less safe - watch for holes in the floor and unsafe structures generally. Nightfall sees that place turn into a set for every zombie film you've ever seen. Remains of SAS and LRDG history abound -... More

I had a very nice time up there, during sunrise. It was all about quality of being alone and a great view of the city. I really enjoyed it!
