Icon Gallery-Ohrid

Very exciting gallery for people of art, people who respect the history of christian religion. I was really impressed of the lecture about methods of painting icons.

I was speechless when I entered the Gallery. I recommend a guided tour, since the written information for every icon is not sufficient. Worth every penny!

The biggest surprise was icon old for one thousand years. You can really enjoy it in silence and prayer.

I've never seen such old icons before, the oldest ones are from XI century. It's a pity that you can't take photos. This place will be extremely interesting for orthodox christians.

There are here some icons I've never seen before and it's wounderful. They are arranged in period order so you can see some differences and influences. Unfortunaly you canlt take pictures inside.

It is worth the climb up for the views, but the fortress itself is little more than a shell now. For some really good views, hike around the north side, along the cliff overlooking the Lake. There are paths down to s tiny beach lined with willows and flowers.

Wonderful place but you have to be someone there to explain everything...by your own you can not understand many things....just see and then leave!

The gallery (which has a 100 denar entrance fee) houses a small, but lovely collection of icons, most from Ohrid, but others from around the country. Tastefully displayed and, at least during my visit, not at all crowded. No pictures allowed.

you look. The museum is no Hermitage, but rather small. It holds precious pieces of art, priceless. No wonder there is a camera watching you. Try and compare these icons with the icons of the Romanian churches ( in the north of the country). There are some similarities though.. Some travellers arrived there and found a closed door...the gallery is... More

We were so disappointed to find that we were too late to see the icons, which everyone tells us are beautiful, so DO VISIT IN THE MORNING !
