The fortress is at the highest point of Ohrid and offers great views in all directions. It is a vast area where the Wals have been restored for access and viewing.

Fortress walls with great panoramic view on the Ohrid lake, Ohrid town and few historical buildings.

I've seen many castles and fortresses around the world. I put this visit at the bottom of my list. If I won the lottery, I'd fly the Macedonian custodians out to Fort McHenry in Baltimore to get an idea of how good this fortress could...More

Tsar Samuel's Fortress rises high over Ohrid's old town and is a great spot to take in some fabulous views of the city and the lake. Come up late afternoon for the best light and even stay up top to watch the sun set over...More

Unless you take a taxi up the (steep) hill from Ohrid town it is an arduous walk up to a location that doesn't offer so much

Ancient fortress overlooking Ohrid. Wander the grounds and climb the walls of an ancient fortress. What more can I say. Totally cool.

The fortress dominates the city. Not always visible from within the old town, but obvious from the water. The sun shows no mercy on the walls, but the view over the old town and the lake is just fantastic. A steep climb with a huge...More

Powerful imposing fortress dominating the north east skyline over Ohrid. Dating from the 10th although much improved, built on and renovated, this splendid fort remains the dividing location between old and new Ohrid. Yet it remains majestically over both, and resplendent with a massive national...More

The fortress on the hill is great for gazing over Orhid, but it does not hold any museums or other things for checking out, but the view alone is worth the visit.
