Stanley Submarines is the premier location in the world for the public to have access to the deep sea. It is the longest operating and deepest diving operation of it's kind. We have been in business since 1998 and take tours as deep as 2000 feet.

How to see the reef without getting wet

Just fantastic - do it. Get up close to the reef and its many inhabitants even if you can't swim. My non swimming wife loved it.

For many of us—much to our detriment—feelings wonder, awe and excitement about the world around become more difficult to achieve over time. Climbing into the Idabel (Mr. Stanley's second self-built submarine) and settling in behind the forward panoramic viewing bay felt like opening the cover of a Jules Verne novel. After being winched into the shallows of Half Moon Bay,... More

I've never had a chance to be in a submarine so this is a golden opportunity. Roatan is on a reef and has abundant and rare life forms undersea, especially really deep, like 1,000 plus feet. In 2-1/2 hours you can go down to 1,200 feet and back. It's a squeeze to get in and out, you can't be too... More

My boyfriend and I did the 1500 foot dive. We totally didn't know what to expect. We went to see the Sub and try to meet Karl the day before our ride but there was someone there filming so we didn't get the opportunity to get any info or even look inside the Sub. When it came time for our... More

My husband is fascinated with submarines. In fact he had always intended in building one but it's not practical where we live. As we were planning our trip to escape the fall weather we decided to take a cruise that include Roatan as one of the ports. My husband immediately contacted Stanley Submarines to determine the cost, availability, and set... More

We went to Roatan specfically to go down with Karl Stanley on Idabel. It was an amazing experience, one that we will never forget. We did 2 dives with Karl, one to see the rare six gill shark and one to the deep water Lophelia Reef. For the 6 gill dive we went to 1600ft. We had a shark within... More

I was fortunate enough to join Karl on one of his infamous Shark Dives last night, and know without a doubt that this experience will stay with me forever. As an Open Water Scuba Instructor, avid Free-Diver, and lover of all things wet, I knew a ride on Idabel was a necessity for me before moving off-island. Thankfully Karl was... More

Climb aboard the Idabel, a submarine that can make you visit the bottom of the ocean and allow you to meet rare sea creatures at a depth of over 2000 ft. This three and a half hours experience is unforgettable and may seem completely surreal. Captain Karl Stanley is a genius and an excellent navigator. He started from scratch the... More

This is an incredible and rare opportunity to do something few will ever do. My husband and I debated whether or not to go-- it's certainly expensive and a bit unusual and I'm always open to saving our pennies but we have absolutely no regrets. Karl is absolutely a professional and is undeniably passionate about his profession. I never once... More

This is truly a fantastic voyage. The exploration of an unknown world and seeing the variety of unusual living creatures that live deep in the ocean is an unforgettable experience. The three person sub may seem a little cramped at times but that is completely forgotten as soon as you encounter a beautiful coral, a deep sea crab, a siphonophore,... More
