As a non-believer who lived a long time in Europe, I can handle about one church every three years, but this one was worth the stop since we had a guide explain what was going on. There have been St. Xavier schools and colleges in many places I've spent time so it was a surprising to learn he is interred... More

Located within the Basilica of Bom Jesus, this is where lies the tomb of St. Francis Xavier. It is believed that his body still remains intact. There is also an art gallery in the basilica. I felt so overwhelmed when I saw the paintings and read about St. Francis. It is a must-visit if you go to Goa.

This is a very popular church in GOA. It's a holy place with amazing architecture . It was a part of my south GOA tour and we were given around an hour to explore this place. One can easily get a tour guide here to explain the story behind the church.

We tend to think of "tomb" as being underground or hidden, but not THIS tomb! It proudly sits atop (actually in the upper half) of a massive altar, surrounded by guard rails, around which the faithful, pilgrims and devotees, can view the mortal remains of this beloved saint, who died 400 years ago.
