Overview
More
Lanta Old Town is a small village on Ko Lanta's East Coast in Krabi Province. Many years ago, Ko Lanta's Old Town acted as the port and commercial center for the island and provided safe harbor for Arabic and Chinese trading vessels sailing between the larger ports of Phuket, Penang and Singapore. Today, Old Town is the district capital; it has a post office, police station, Buddhist temple, Chinese temple and the island's hospital as well as a long pier.

One street with a few shops and restaurants. Nice to visit but do not expect anything spectaular. On Ko Lanta it is on e of nicest spots to spend an hour or two.

Cool waterside cafes built on old wooden piles driven into the mangrove. Good views over the limestone karsts/islands offshore. More humid than the west coast. No beach. Small enough town to do in a morning. Market stalls close early (fresh produce).

We stayed here for 2 weeks. We had our place right at the water in a traditional wooden house with stelts in the water. The street has some great restaurants and the shops have a lot of nice clothes and other things which are cheap....More

Sleepy town with beautiful restaurant and bar. Nice shopping in this area too. Very genuine feel for the island.

This is a place for the ones looking for some peace and quiet. Better to go in off or shoulder season if you want most of it to yourself :) Otherwise be ready to encounter bustling crowd of touch and go/ day tourists. Quaint little...More

I guess you have to see it when on Lanta, but don't expect too much, eg. a cultural experience. If you visit walk all the way through the shops and see if you can spot something authentic. When shopping do bargain, several shops offer the...More

Lots of shops to browse. Good food. Nice for a few hours of wandering through the shops. Not strenuous at all. Easy access.

.... Except for the temple. We were fortunate, that there was a community gathering when we visited, and we were asked to join the lunch outside the temple. Very nice people.
