The heritage walk take you up to the English tea house and Anges Keith house. The stairs are not that much but the hot weather makes it difficult. There is a sign for Sandakan heritage musuem but the place is close. The highlight of this walk is the English Tea house. Good food and refreshing fresh juice. You can also take a taxi back to the parish of St. Michael and all angels. If you walk back to the city, there are several monuments and temples along the way.…

Based on the reviews here, I took the advice by taking the trail from top down, which was less tiring. So much was talked about the 100 steps, but it was nothing but concrete steps. Its a good way to explore the heritage of Sandakan.

Walk along the main road and then turn right to Agnes Keith House . Continue walking and you well see a sign for the 100 steps, an easy walk down. The Heritage trail is well signposted

Another trail to show the towns history. lots of hills but worth the buildings you see. The 100 stairs that have been reproduced and more like 300 with sloping walkways in-between.

The map was generally easy to follow though we did it backwards and got a bit turned around by St. Micheals. I think the Chinese cemetery and memorial should be added as part of the walk. Be aware the 100 steps are actually 230+ haha :) We weren't disappointed doing it in reverse (went down instead of up the stairs). Took us less than 2 hours and that included a stop at the Johnson exhibit off the main square and the Chinese memorial, plus stopping for pictures (and getting turned around). Definitely isn't a long walk or terribly hard; I recommend it instead of taking a car.…
