The heritage walk take you up to the English tea house and  Anges Keith house.  The stairs are not that much but the hot weather makes it difficult. There is a sign for Sandakan heritage musuem but the place is close. The highlight of this walk is the English Tea house. Good food and refreshing fresh juice.  You can also take a taxi back to the parish of St.  Michael and  all angels. If you walk back to the city, there are several monuments and temples along the way.

Based on the reviews here, I took the advice by taking the trail from top down, which was less tiring.
So much was talked about the 100 steps, but it was nothing but concrete steps. Its a good way to explore the heritage of Sandakan.

Walk along the main road and then turn right to Agnes Keith House . Continue walking and you well see a sign for the 100 steps, an easy walk down. The Heritage trail is well signposted

Another trail to show the towns history. lots of hills but worth the buildings you see.
The 100 stairs that have been reproduced and more like 300 with sloping walkways in-between.

The map was generally easy to follow though we did it backwards and got a bit turned around by St. Micheals. I think the Chinese cemetery and memorial should be added as part of the walk. Be aware the 100 steps are actually 230+ haha :) We weren't disappointed doing it in reverse (went down instead of up the stairs). Took us less than 2 hours and that included a stop at the Johnson exhibit off the main square and the Chinese memorial, plus stopping for pictures (and getting turned around). Definitely isn't a long walk or terribly hard; I recommend it instead of taking a car.

We followed the first half of this trail then my daughter was exhausted so we took a Grab back into the city. Following the planned route, it starts off rather hard going up the steps to the English Tea House. I suggest you walk the reverse direction, which is a more gradual ascent on the roadway, then come down the steps.

Many of the stops on the route are not worth the effort to see in and of themselves, but collectively, the sum is greater than the parts. The highlight for us was the English Tea House restaurant where we had and early lunch plus tea and scones.

Quite an enjoyable walk but with the heat and humidity a degree of fitness helps as there is a fairly tough stepped climb to Agnes Keith house and viewpoints over Sandakan. The walk encompasses the Jamek mosque, several memorials related to WW2, 100 steps, Chinese memorial, Japanese cemetery and the lovely Agnes Keith house. The English Tea House next door has a good selection of refreshments and the lookout just across the road has great views across Sandakan and the Sulu sea. Poorly signed so a phone with mapping is useful as is doing the walk first thing when it's cooler.

This walk takes in all the heritage buildings around Sandakan. Need to be fairly fit to do it. Morning is best time when it's cooler. Lots of steps. Chinese memorial and cemetery, good. Agnes Keith house is fabulous.

Interesting walk, though I struggled with the heat, we also walked to the Chinese cemetery which was interesting, the tea house was lovely and ran to real iced tea ( couldn’t face a hot drink) as well as great scones. If you plan on doing this walk, maybe start early before the heat. Not a hard walk, there are occasional marks in the footpath to follow.
