Decided to go for a walk so what better than following the Heritage Trail. We walked 75% of it. Easy walk for the most part but the map can get you turned around a little.

The heritage trail is a good way to walk all around Sandakan and see the main heritage sights in a self guided way. I personally really enjoy walking around cities but if you don't like it, then this attraction probably isn't for you. There are a few hills and quite a few stairs so if you've been chomping down on... More

Although not amazingly spectacular we find any self guided city walk a great way to get a feel for any city. Add a bit of history and it makes a walk more interesting. Prior reading about Sandakan's history will enhance this walk further. Early morning is a good time to do it as Sandkan's mid day sun can be scorching.

A lot of sweat and effort for little reward so unless you need the exercise don't bother. Catch a cab to the top of the hill English Tea House] and have a cup of tea overlooking the city---that's the highlight.

We got a map of the Heritage Trail and started but it was hard to complete as some of the way that was marked had locked gates! and in the heat of the day it was no fun to try and sort out. So we went back to the hotel and got our rental car and drove around.

This is quite a long trek with steps/hill to scale but you get pass several places that marked the city's past in a couple of hours. The walk should be done the other way around from the official map so that you could have tea at the teahouse and then walk down the 100 steps instead of up.

Sandakan isn't a beautiful city, old appartement buildings, a brand new shopping mall next to the Sheraton hotel what's half filled by local outlet shops, just to fill it up and the other half closed down by big wooden boards. To see a bit of the old sandakan, this tour leads you in about 2,5 hour to 3 hours walking... More

This is a quick little walk from the centre of Sandakan. There really isn't all that much to see on the "trail" itself.... It's more like a covered cement walkway.... But the view at the top is very nice, a good place for photos

Sandakan is very light on attractions and not an attractive place, so this is something to fill in the time. Good view from the top of the 100 steps (be warned there are more than 100 steps)
