I have just completed my beginner’s course at Freediving Perhentian and couldn’t be any happier to have discovered the world of freediving with Claudia. Claudia is a fabulous trainer, passionate and inspirational. I didn’t have any previous experience, but I always felt very safe and comfortable thanks to Claudia’s clear and precise instructions and thoughtful guidance. She was able to understand my limits and push me when necessary. Her teaching method based on theory and practice was very effective and fun: by learning how the body works under water, I was able to better understand what to do during the dives. I am amazed by the experience and by what I could do in only three days, as I was able to dive to 20m. Thank you Claudia, for this wonderful adventure!

Claudia managed to squeeze me in for a quick acquaint freedive. It was absolutely excellent and I really enjoyed it. It felt very safe and Claudia was knowledgable and gave useful advice. I would thoroughly recommend Spice Divers/Freedive Perhentian/Apnea Total and am really considering heading back to do a proper course. If you're thinking about doing it - go for it!

Claudia is amazing, so professional, calm, funny and a also did a great coaching showing me how far I could go.
I’m so grateful, seriously!

Best freediving School in Malaysia. I’m an instructor myself and I was just passing through looking for some fun dives and some training dives. I was blown away by their beautiful, professional and efficient set up. Claudia and Chris do such an amazing job making everything smooth for their new students and even more experienced divers. I’m a bit jealous I didn’t take my first course there. I went fundiving on the police wreck and had a fun time!

We *loved* our freediving course with Claudia and Chris. We walked in, and she agreed to teach us a Freediver course starting that afternoon. By the end of the third day, we both got down to 20 meters, all thanks to Claudia and Chris’ instruction.

Claudia’s teaching is very clear and easy to understand. We also felt very safe with each dive.

We cannot wait to do the next course!

Just one word: sensational!!
Brad was an amazing instructor, very patient and explains everything slow and clear. I’m a scuba diving instructor, I wish there are more instructors on scuba diving as brad on free diving.
The equipment and the dive shop was also good, so all this together made a great weekend for me and an unforgettable experience.

If you're looking for a bucket list moment then this is it!

I spent 2 of the most amazing weeks of my life here learning to Freedive and could not recommend the Freedive Perhentian enough. From start to finish it was professional, exciting, fun and yet inspiring. For anyone who has a slight fear to those who are looking for the ultimate challenge, there is no better place than here to learn and no better instructor than Bram - He is the MAN!

Can't wait to go back now!

I completed the Freediver course (beginner/level 1) June 2018 with Bram being my instructor in the 2-day course that covers both theories/classroom and water sessions.
FREEDIVE CENTER:
Freedive Perhentian is located in the same center as Spice Divers which is a scuba diving center. This means should you have the time, you can go scuba diving without looking for another dive shop. The shop itself is in the farther stretch of Long Beach few minutes walk from the jetty. Accommodations are also available, and even if the units went full, there are plenty of budget or fancy rooms nearby. The shop is also right on the beach so it is convenient and has really nice view. The environment was conducive for the relaxed classroom sessions.
FREEDIVE COURSE:
The instructional materials and curriculum are straightforward and effectively designed to achieve goals.
The course content is as advertised on the website...and more. Generally, the sessions consist of theory discussion, followed by a video or demo, and then application.
Here are some of my key take aways:
1. Safety and Rescue Procedure - For someone who constantly breaks the first rule of freediving, this is a deal breaker.
2. Physiology - You'll learn stuffs like vagus and trigeminal nerve, hypoxia, pranayama, O2 and CO2 balancing and tolerance, diaphragmatic versus chest breathing, and freediving diet.
3. Self-awareness - This comes handy in identifying the stress points in your body (the number one enemy of relaxation)--small things like despite being right-handed I equalize much easier using left hand, that I use my right leg more than my left leg.
4. Breathing Technique - You'll learn how to conserve energy and make each breath a preparation for the big dive, or for full, speedy recovery after the dive.
DIVE SITE:
We had very excellent weather and water condition during the dives. On day 2, we visited the Police Wreck for fun dives. This is my third time visiting this wreck, the first two being a scuba diver and the third one as a freediver. This was also my first time going inside the wreck.
Important: Do not bang your head on the sea bed.
FREEDIVE INSTRUCTOR:
I'm a teacher by profession, so there are specific traits I look for in an instructor. Quoting a good diver friend, "You don't need to be in mainstream dive schools. You should find a good instructor/dive master." And like most freedivers I know, Bram also crossed over from scuba diving.
Bram would exceed your expectations.

Would I dive again or recommend Freedive Perhentian/Bram? Yes, absolutely.
