There are many diving schools on this island, I randomly picked Monkey Dives and I absolutely enjoyed my stay and even extended twice. The people are really nice and professional divers. The dorm is quite basic, don't expect much from it but I did have a good night sleep. There is an AC in the room, which is great. Unfortunately no lockers or private electricity plugs at every bed. But hey, you're on a tropical island for diving, you don't need all that luxury, right?! So Monkey Dives is a recommendation if your looking for a nice and cheap(!) stay at Perhentian Island! …

Would recommend confirming and arranging your van transfers to and from Besut jetty in advance as they need at least a 20 min heads up to arrange your ride from their office near the jetty. Stayed 4 nights with 4 friends for a dive trip. Really friendly and relaxed environment among the instructors and dive masters who were also hospitable hosts at the dorm which is onsite. Accommodation was reasonably clean and comfortable but expect to definitely have some sand in the dorm as well as the beds, not recommended for picky travellers. Air conditioning in the bunk bed dorms was reliable but it tends to get warm in the earlier part of the evening before getting really cold late into the night. 3 shared bathrooms are located on the ground level. Generally clean with good water pressure but no hot water, the community there makes an effort to maintain good housekeeping. Gets busy during the morning before dives and evenings before and after dinner. It was unfortunate during our stay that the wifi was out, but you can find reliable wifi 24/7 near the nearby restaurants and cafe. Dive equipment were in good condition, clean serviceable although some of my friends experienced some leaky pressure gauges on the regulators. Fun dives are conducted in a very relaxed and casual manner. Still professional but not on schedule and often briefs are conducted just before you hit the water. Not for uptight or very serious divers. Overall a very pleasant experience with warm, friendly and hospitable crew. Great variety of dining options on the beach.…

Came here with friends/kids for 4 dives over 2 days. The Dive Masters were super nice and did their best to help set up dive equipment, spot marine life, etc. The dives were definitely mixed. Our first day, we went to 2 spots where there was broken and dying coral, not much marine life and a TON of other dive boats. The second day was much better, when we dove at Temple and T3. My only complaint was that we came on a holiday long weekend and they jammed so many divers into each dive - at one point we had a boat of 25 divers with 3 dive masters. Too many! I definitely would not come back again over a holiday weekend but rather would wait until a less crowded time.…

I took an open water course with my bf and we couldn't be any happier with our stay there. The environment they have provided is very chill and cosy for everyone and it brought out the best in both of us. People were lovely there with amazing stories to tell. The staff and the instructors were all professionals but very sweet and playful. They all worked together as a family and created such a friendly and fun experience for all the divers and people staying. I can't wait to go back there and do more! If you are around this is a trip that you definitely want to experience with the monkey divers. To get there we took a boat from Kuala Besut Jetty it was a 30 minute journey, you'd prefer to take the first boat at 7 am so you can enjoy the rest of your day on the beach. For the way back you can get the boat either 8 am 12 or 4 pm.…
