We stayed two nights with a family in their home. It was very basic to say the least but the experience was great. To get away from wifi for a couple of days and let my kids see the local kids playing simple games was an education. We went fishing and horse riding. To be honest, it seemed a little... More

I took students to Nicaragua. We stayed in the homestay with several different families, participating in the Nourishing Nicaragua tour, cultural and the cultural cooking class. The experience was overwhelmingly positive. Students loving learning to fish in the lake, we caught oysters, enjoyed a meal cooked by women in the village. We had a great experience with the cooking class.... More

Los Ramos is a rural village by the coast, and you can buy day trips or homestays. I booked the day trip "Nourishing Nicaragua", and as it turned out I was the only customer so it was just me and the guide from 9 am to 3 pm. We walked through the village, visiting many of the farm houses and... More

We stayed in Los Ramos for two nights as part of the homestay programme. Jairo and his family were all lovely and it was really interesting to talk to them and learn all about their community. Don Fausto also took us to the new ciudadela and we really enjoyed meeting and talking to everyone there too. The food they cooked... More

The number 1 reason for which I travel is to be able to immerse myself, first hand, into the ways that people from other geographies, cultures and idiosincracies act in their different worlds. This provides you with a wider perspective of daily life situations that are common to all of us and, ultimately, shapes the way you think and makes... More

We spent two adventure filled days with Ebert and we highly recommend this experience. For me it was one of the highlights of our trip to Ometepe and chatting with Ebert about the history and current life in his community and getting to know other members of the Ramos left us feeling connected on a much deeper level than we... I spent one day/night with Mama Alba and her daughter in Los Ramos. It was a great stay, and our tour through the village as well as fishing experience was very well run. Only con was our guide was not THE best english speaker, but he tried. Also, we were told we would have a fish based dinner upon our... More

What an incredible experience it was to live like a Nica for a few days in this indigenous village on the shores of Lake Cocibolca! We brought our students there for a service learning trip and they couldn't get enough of it! While the homes have no running water and one must use a latrine and shower with a bucket,... More

I am thrilled to share with you my experience with the cultural cooking class in Los Ramos. This indigenous community has grabbed my heart and they will be a part of my life forever. We spent the afternoon preparing nacatamales, visiting the banana and plantain plantations to pick the best leaves in which to wrap our nacatamales. Our gracious hosts... More
